I've never put one up myself. 200sq/ft might be a little optimistic. 225-250 sq/ft is probably more like it. Be careful when getting sq/ft quotes because it is easy to massage the numbers and omit certain things to keep the number low. Life here is very good, we have a new member of the family and are enjoying her very much. Business is very good right now but the market spasms have us worried about some big projects we have in the final planning stages. We don't want to be left at the altar. The last time the market crashed we had about 3 mil in projects evaporate over night. Some of those clients have just come back to the table and we are worried they will get cold feet again. Building a house can be a great experience if you get involved with good people. Check references,any GC worth dealing with will have a long list of references. Energy efficiency code compliance is tougher and tougher as more stringent codes are put into effect. We are building 2 houses currently that will be required to meet the new STRETCH code adopted by some towns here in the Berkshires. Good luck with the possible project and really, don't hesitate to ask me questions I'd be glad to help. We build houses from ultra modern to colonial reproductions. Mostly 2nd or third vacation homes. It is highest in August (I think) and they thought the heat from it made it warmer. Brightest star in the summer sky after the Sun. We're a design/build firm though we often work with architects from outside of Massachusetts. Right now the STRETCH code matters, frankly it's a major pain in the azz. I think there will be some court challenges to this before long. We already build very tight houses and we basically see the HERS raters as a added and unnecessary expense. Logan11 Posted August 13, 2011 Share Posted August 13, 2011 I have a lot of tomatoes on my plants, but I can't seem to get them to ripen much. I think I'll just pick the big green ones and bring them in to ripen if they don't do it naturally pretty soon. I have a bumper crop of buttercup squash, but the pumpkins are not thriving. They were doing well in July then things turned cool and they probably needed a few more weeks of warm wx. Hopefully I get a few decent ones, but it won't compare to last year. Oh I have a few cabbages and they look big and fat...just about ready for harvest. 51 this am and that seems to flip a switch in me and I'm back on the board. I haven't had enough beach time yet. The tomatoes have been fantastic here....it has been pretty hot out this way compared to you. My Brandywine heirlooms are just coming in...enormous and unbelievably sweet. Just put in some mustard greens, kale, lettuce, beets, carrots and chard for the fall. This week of rainy cool weather should really help them. My tomatoes should go into mid September...I'll be canning and freezing like crazy. Please remind me during the first big stahm that I should go pull out some tomato vegetable soup. All is well here. We lost our old dog Zoe in early June. She was a golden who made it to 14. Now we have Sophie a little 12 week old blond golden. Life is good, business is great. We are pondering building a Yankee Barns home on nice piece of land....or buying a condo in Philly as a second home. 200 a square foot is what I'm thinking... You are well it seems? Its like if the high is 60F at 4,000ft is that a "fall-like" day when that is the average high for this time of year? An October "fall-like" day is more like rain/snow mix with a high of 38F up there. Where are you pulling normals for the East Slope from? Nice try though lol. Well today was 76/47 here, solidly below normal using your own numbers. I did say EARLY fall-like conditions. To me EARLY fall is characterized by cool nights and mild days with low dp's. Today featured both. Plus a breeze. Tomorrow looks cooler still with the addition of heavy rain. Yup, cool and wet FTW.
