  1. Past hour
  2. DCPS is off - don't you guys get off for Veterans Day?
  3. Pretty uniform around the metro - 29.8F here to your south a bit (upper NW DC).
  4. I install 4 or 5 every week. This was a little pricey because there was a long wire/pipe run through the garage and basement to get to the transfer switch. Cost was $22k. We have guys that do all the trenching and site work, and then we sub out the plumbing. All of that is included in the cost. This is also why I love warm winters. Installs are really tough when the ground is frozen!
  5. Our 13kw Generac fully furnishes our needs; it ran for 101 straight hours from the Dec 2023 storm with no issues. (26kw = big house, at least compared with our 960 sq.ft. plus the loft.) The actual unit was about $3k but the total was north of $10k. The electrical work was almost as expensive as the genny itself, and the purchase/installation/filling of two 100-gallon propane tanks came to over $4k. We also tossed ~$750 for a screening fence around the tanks.
  6. That's interesting. We got down to 26, yet the ground did not freeze. I'm ok with that, as we have lots of flowers that survived.
  7. that looks like Buzzard's Bay is sending a local le snow band across New Bedford.
  8. What a bunch of weenies. You’d think we were in the middle of a HECS.
  9. Actually their snow came from a different mechanism than what causes our big snows. I actually asked PSU about it when it happened and he said it actually could be possible for the Gulf Coast to score the way they did while at the same time we permanently lose big snows. Now he does not believe we've reached the point where the once a decade big snow storm is a thing of the past but snowfall is still in an overall decline due to a loss of the smaller marginal events.
  10. The smokies have some nice snow cover today!
  11. Are they for real? I've eaten a lot of interesting things but squirrel hasn't made the list yet!
  12. China has a major nuclear initiative in action. They have dozens of new nuclear power plants currently being built while the U.S. has none. That being said, there is a big push from the current administration to build more (primarily to meet rapidly growing datacenter demand due to the AI frenzy), but previous projects have been very slow to get underway.
  13. 26kw is a bigun’. Like these little fatties I mentioned the other day. The one with the short tail is sitting on a 17kw Generac. The one on the pole is just a buddy apparently.
  14. Wind now starting as modeled by the EC KBWI: Baltimore, MD, United States [41kt, 21m/s] KILG: Wilmington, New Castle County Airport, DE, United States [41kt, 21m/s]] KLNS: Lancaster, Lancaster Airport, PA, United States [40kt, 21m/s] saw max gust 46 MPH (40 kt) adjacent DE Bay s NJ. soon should spread north.
  15. I saw that, it seems like models differ on if itll hit either late tonight, tomorrow midday (bad ofc), or tomorrow evening peak
