75/72 Perfection!
-
HFD is still at 81/73. I’m at 77/73.
-
We got about a half inch to an inch of snow today. Snowed for most of the morning and afternoon. (elev 6,700')
-
Still 80 here, HI of 86. Impressive for this late in Suffolk
-
That’s next level, wow. Anyone without A/C in that area is in trouble. I’m afraid to think that there may be a good deal of folks in high-rise apartments that have no real ability to cool if they don’t have window units? Imagine starting the first night of the heater with a min in the upper 70s or 80s.

EWR 87° at 11p.

Couple ball players had the heat get to them, one guy puked, one guy needed an ice bath. I used to love playing ball on hot nights like tonight, loosened up quick and the ball travelled further.

I'm at 77, not sure of the dew point but its muggy as hell.

E PA/NJ/DE Summer 2025 Obs/Discussion

Still got to 87F And despite the many days of showers only at 4.00" for June -
That 8.22" last week increased my YTD total by more than 50%! What was a very dry year statistically is now on track at 24.30". Just got back from visiting the wife's family in western PA and all the plants look lush. We'll see how they fare after a week of big heat. Interestingly, their region of western PA has had almost no summer so far, with constant rain and cool temps. A switch has just flipped though, as it launched into 80's yesterday. They will be in the upper 80s to 90 next week with high humidity, which is very unusual for them. Although I enjoy visiting them I was anxious to escape before the heat as central air is almost unknown up there, and most of the bedrooms are upstairs. It can be very uncomfortable sleeping at night even in normal weather.

We are certainly on a record-watch kind of week. -

Agreed......I am going to use your SST WPO correlation this year. I took my first stab at the WPO last year and missed it. -
This, which has been designated as the first “ham sandwich” storm since 2023, is liable to be declared a TD shortly with a TS not out of the question.

Great stats Don, thanks

I don't believe today's light rainfall (0.10" at NYC, 0.08" at LGA and JFK, and 0.06" at Newark) will have much impact on Tuesday's high temperatures. Looking back at Central Park's long record, there were 6 100° days two days after measurable precipitation. In fact, on July 20, 1977, 0.06" rain fell. July 21, 1977 saw the mercury hit 104°. The most precipitation that fell two days before a 100° high was 0.36"; the most precipitation that fell one day before a 100° high was 0.16". The highest temperature two days after 1" or more rain was 99°; the highest temperature one day after 1" or more rain was 97°. The highest temperature two days after 2" or more rain was 95°; the highest temperature one day after 2" or more rain was 93°. Both those cases followed 3" or above rainfall. The highest temperature two days after 4" or more rain was 89°; the highest temperature one day after 4" or more rain was 87°. In short, heavier rainfall would have an impact. The light rainfall that occurred today shouldn't have much impact. The development of a sea breeze, cloud cover, and/or humidity will have a larger impact.

The humidity is really going to be a monster to overcome this week. Today was the "cooler" day of the heat wave and it was downright NASTY out this afternoon. 94/75 for the hi/low in my neighborhood. The dew point was able to breach 80 today in the middle of the afternoon with a majority of the time hovering around 77-79. Brutal
-
Stifling out. 87 dew 74.
-
Anybody just hear that? wasn’t lightning
-
Hope we see some triple digits at key sites. This will be high-end heat and humidity for another couple days regardless of if it hits 100F or not. 95-99F with high dews is uncomfortable enough.
