December 2025 regional war/obs/disco thread

it's nice to see a garbage 1-2" otg hang around in early December. I can't lie. In this particular area near Lowell (lol) in a valley, is practically impossible without optimal conditions -
Winter 2025-26 Short Range Discussion

Mainly just not getting any lake enhancement + sloppy drizzly sub 1-inch WAA sludge. It’s early, but below normal temp days with sunshine and not a flurry to be found is not normal climo for here. If it’s in the 20s there should be some fluff in the air at times. I was just hopeful this was going to be a year where the snowpack can build. -
Snowing here. ground covered.

My parents often told me how the mid to late 80s winters were more often brutally cold but without much snow to boot. It always killed inside as a kid too when we’d have periods of cold and dry weather and I just remember looking out the window in school desperately trying to find that one little snowflake descending to earth. It’s amazing how much of a boost that used to be as a little dude just trying to get through the day!

All 0Z ensembles are much colder in the E US 12/13-17 vs earlier runs.

It's pretty cool to see embedded bursts of steadier snow with real snowflakes and maybe 1mi visibility. These bursts are evident on radar as parallel bands oriented transverse to the direction of movement. Model soundings were reflective of the low level pixie dust stuff that's forming below the radar beam. But the heavier banded stuff is actually showing up on radar and accumulating.

Pretty snowy night out there. Alternating flurries and light snow with intensity gradually increasing since 9pm or so. Probably a few tenths accumulation on all surfaces... could be some slick spots. Nice job by the hi-res models even days in advance. I'm not sure how well models would have picked this up 15 years ago.

I think this will be a good winter.

The backstory how this all went down is going to be fascinating Sent from my SM-S731U using Tapatalk -
something is afoot.

I wish I could take credit for that, but twas not me! I was outlining the banding potential with this system and how there would be two main areas over the sub. This little surprise is indicative of a mid-level maxima scooting through with influence at the surface from a weak inverted trough axis off the Mid Atlantic coast. We analyzed one off DE this evening on the 03z surface analysis which I looked over. Nice little surprise!

Oh god ya….no worrying yet, but I lived through the 80’s…it can happen. Everything around us, but nothing hits us. That’s the way it’s looking at the moment. Everybody north and south, east and west getting in on all the action…while we get jumped over. Been there done that 40 years ago. We will see. -
the precipitation doesn't really seem to be moving anywhere.... just on and off snow for the lsat two hours

Yk what I think I should be allowed to create more threads in the future if we’re getting snow 12+ hours it was supposed to end.

I think it’d be catastrophic to get through this particular pattern without at least climo December snow, but it’s clear we’re going to be riding the line so to speak with this fast flow torpedo shortwave pattern. No time to worry yet. Keep the eastern warmth at bay and keep allowing our source region in SE Canada to freeze. -

Thanks for asking, it went well! There was some light rain during the ceremony but we had enough umbrellas to go around and since we didn’t care everyone followed our lead and wasn’t upset or concerned about it. Wasn’t super prepared to be holding an umbrella myself during the ceremony but it’s all good -

It’s a possibility…has happened before. It can happen again. Sometimes the stuff goes north and south of us…we might be in that set up. Sucks..but it happens. -
an additional 0.2" from this evening thing so far. light snow on and off right now edit as of 12:04am: moderate snow with big dendrites falling from the sky
