Im sure staffing cuts of 30% at NWS Bos had no impact. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/07/trump-layoffs-nws#:~:text=The downsizing comes as part,as compared with last fall. Some of the hardest-hit offices were the most prone to severe weather, according to an analysis of publicly available staffing information reviewed by the Guardian. The NWS offices in Miami, Boston, Houston, Cheyenne in Wyoming and Rapid City in South Dakota have all lost more than 30% of their staffing as compared with last fall.

I arrived back from out west on Tuesday evening and was greeted by instagram suggesting a video posted by Andrew Drummond ascending and descending Tuckerman Ravine that day. It showed some precarious conditions on the Sherburne Trail - gushing water - and what I assumed to be the little headwall - open crevices that would mean certain death if unlucky enough to fall in. I had tentatively agreed to skin up and ski down Mt. Washington with a friend starting at cog railroad base and finishing in pinkham notch later this month but I am no longer interested. With some snow and improved conditions, it would be nice to skin up to the bowl but my old knees are no longer interested in having to descend by foot. I ended up skiing at Panorama, Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Whitewater and Red Mountain in Canada. Six of the nine days of skiing were excellent conditions. Like the rest of the west, it has been warm and snow has not been consistent. My week at Palisades (post 10'/subsequent washout) was 'ok' but lots of terrain was closed (with a lot more now). The little hill in that lineup - Whitewater - remains my favorite. What a great place.

Central PA Spring 2026 Discussion/Obs Thread
ChescoWx replied to Voyager's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
Some typical March weather ahead as we see consistent swings from cold to warmer to cold again for much of the rest of the month. We remain below normal today before warming up to above normal tomorrow through the weekend. WE then turn back to below normal to start the new work week. Our next rain chances arrive tomorrow night into Saturday morning and again Sunday night into Monday morning. -

I mean maybe it’s not sunny and 80, but Saturday looked ok and Sunday looked at least 60-65 SoP. Sunday has danger of being crappy but that’s how it looks.
-
Cuz it changes every few hrs with the next cycle of the GFS.
-
Please let it be 65-70. Not 80+ Leave that shit for May
-
Ooh, I didn't check the EPS ... Hopefully, they're right
-
Why do you think that is?
-
was cold out today i felt a chill in my bones..

lol…

We had guys saying yesterday that the Euro looked good for the weekend..mild. Guess that shit the bed. ?
-
What are you smoking dude

Saturday should be dry and ranging from upper 40's to 50's

Clearing to the south, but the blue ridge has different plans. Central VA might be an underrated place to live. They’re far enough south and east to be significantly less impacted by the clouds produced by the Great Lakes and Appalachian’s, but far enough north to get snow every now and then.

Spring isn’t usually bad here. The ocean affect garbage is oversold once you are 10 miles inland. But it looks cloudy and raw with some rain Saturday. Not sure how that’s good lol
-
You are correct. I remember that winter because i started my current job that winter. Very cold March due to storms getting suppressed and hitting the Mid Atlantic.
-
What kind of bike do you have? Got a trek fx 2 recently and it def beats my Roscoe on pavement. Could use a slightly lower gear ratio for some of the more punchy climbs, though.
-
Some were saying yesterday it was looking good…WOR is usually nicer than out your way in early spring…so hoping for that.
-
This weekend looks miserable. Typical March

Coastal waters here are still in the upper 30s. Any onshore wind and the warmup crashes to an end.
