  1. Past hour
  2. Amazing beers. I was floored when I was there several years ago by the steady flow of people going in with hand carts and leaving with them filled.
  3. The Washington Post has an article showing how summers have lengthened in the United States. In part, the article states: In recent decades, sweat-inducing temperatures have been arriving earlier and ending later in the year. An analysis of U.S. weather data shared with The Washington Post shows which places are experiencing notably longer summer seasons than they were three decades ago. Temperatures are spiking to levels typically seen in June earlier than expected and lingering longer at the end of the season. The analysis, conducted by climatologist Brian Brettschneider, examined the hottest 90 days of the year from 1965 to 1994 and compared their frequency over 1995 to 2024. He found that the temperatures that used to kick off the hottest three months of the year are expanding beyond the calendar definition of summer. For illustrative purposes, I ran the numbers for Phoenix, which has seen a rapid increase in extreme heat in recent years. There, September 1-15 is now as hot as August 16-31 once was. One has not yet seen such a dramatic shift in the northern U.S. e.g., September 1-15 is nearing the August 16-31 levels in Central Park during the first two decades of the 20th century. In short, warming has occurred, just not as dramatic as that seen in the southern half of the United States, including but not limited to such cities as Phoenix.
  4. Stopped at one of the epic east breweries yesterday on the way to foxborough for Miranda lambert and Morgan wallen. Top notch.
  5. Not worth having a pool open at this point
  6. Today
  7. I think you have to be ready for it still to go brown under similar conditions in the upcoming years. It may be heat tolerant to 100F which means less chance of it actually dying, not necessarily staying green without irrigation. It will still go dormant. I think they are marketing this for areas in the south of here where 95-100 happens every summer for long periods of time, and where they actually will have die off because of high temps/humidity. Like you mentioned, its getting warmer here, so i think the choice makes sense, just rain or supplemental irrigation will still be needed.
  8. So should everyone close pools? No more swims?
  9. Watering is easier in late season plantings than early season. The lower sun angle does a less drying out and keeps soil temps more conducive than late May and def into early June. That being said, you do need the discipline to water daily in drought conditions like we’re experiencing. Same discipline but better results is my take.
  10. I happen to think it wasn’t an innocent mistake based on this person from the UK’s past winter forecasts….which always come to the same conclusion about how winter will turn out. I’m pretty sure there were ulterior motives (likes, etc. from his followers) for saying we are at a solar minimum because said person knows darn well that a solar minimum and low geomag = high latitude blocking
  11. Another beautiful day. sadly, a swimmer drowned off of fire island yesterday. Rip currents were brutal
  12. Need one more for our fantasy team...anybody here play?
  13. Maybe, just maybe....today's the day for Tamaqua.
  14. Stein makes it very hard . Last year was watering daily into Nov. Key is it has to stay moist . If folks aren’t committed to watering .. do not overseed
  15. Kids will need a light jacket in the mornings midweek.
  16. I overseed every year on Labor Day weekend, it is important to get good seed growth before the first frost
  17. Ughhh back home, even though it's 50 miles it feels like a whole nother country lol 78, partly cloudy and a stiff breeze.
  18. Looks like top 5 cool mornings on tap tomorrow, and Tues. Frost adv issued. Possible with low max temps, as well, today, and tomorrow.
  19. The best weather week of the year occurring in August is a flex
  20. It was probably a category 2 at NJ landfall based on the below report. https://riskandinsurance.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Swiss-Re_the_big_one_us_hurricane.pdf
  21. No rain in sight other than the slight chance of a shower late tonight. It's nice that we're going to have a long stretch of beautiful weather, but the lack of rain is a concern. Parts of the area have moved into a moderate drought and it's only going to get worse over the next couple weeks. I hope we're not heading towards the same situation we had last fall with a severe drought.
  22. It's been a long break up here. About a month long break. Summer is dead.
  23. Cool and grey here with a breeze. 69F
  24. YMMV but I think I may try winter seeding. I’ll spread some out where I want it right before the first snow that looks like will stick around for awhile. We can easily keep pack or glacier DJFM so I may be able to get away with that method.
