There is a 844 reading out in OHIO right now that is just ridiculous!
-
I haven’t seen it back off much from what I seen. And air qualities as worse than forecasted in parts of central Pa nw Pa right now.
-
There are 190 -218 readings near me now.

Good news is that the HRRR is being less aggressive on the smoke over the past several runs. Bad news is that it is undershooting the visibility reduction in the Great Lakes right now. Much of WI and MI have 1 mile or less visibility.

After 2 runs forming a TS from this, the last 2 runs dropped that and instead both develop something well out in the Atlantic subtropics: 0Z 7/16/26 UKMET NEW TROPICAL CYCLONE FORECAST TO DEVELOP AFTER 156 HOURS FORECAST POSITION AT T+156 : 27.9N 63.9W LEAD CENTRAL MAXIMUM WIND VERIFYING TIME TIME POSITION PRESSURE (MB) SPEED (KNOTS) -------------- ---- -------- ------------- ------------- 1200UTC 22.07.2026 156 27.9N 63.9W 1014 29 0000UTC 23.07.2026 168 30.6N 66.2W 1013 31 —————————— 12Z 7/16/26 UKMET NEW TROPICAL CYCLONE FORECAST TO DEVELOP AFTER 150 HOURS FORECAST POSITION AT T+150 : 28.4N 62.9W LEAD CENTRAL MAXIMUM WIND VERIFYING TIME TIME POSITION PRESSURE (MB) SPEED (KNOTS) -------------- ---- -------- ------------- ------------- 0000UTC 23.07.2026 156 29.1N 63.9W 1014 30 1200UTC 23.07.2026 168 32.3N 65.2W 1014 31

PurpleAir has a nice map that updates every 10 minutes or so: https://map.purpleair.com/air-quality-standards-us-epa-aqi?opt=%2F1%2Flp%2Fa10%2Fp604800%2FcC0#9.74/40.8063/-74.416 Getting heavier for sure.. This is for a sensor near Dover.

Naaaa.. he's not one of us lol. I'm super ready! It's great watching these heat domes turing the lakes into batch water. Man.. those first cold shots in late November are going to produce epic rates. As a rate chaser I approve.

Starting to permeate my office in Oakland NJ. Noticing more co-workers clearing their throats as the day goes on.

Perhaps he would also enjoy a winter trip to the NY Snowbelt?

Within the last half hour the thicker smoke showed up here, and you can smell it. -
Smoke is getting heavier . My eyes are starting to hurt here in Brooklyn.
-
Have a feeling air going to get nasty around here tonight into tomorrow. Areas in PA going into very unhealthy to hazardous air quality which they only had it getting to code red. Pittsburgh already into very unhealthy levels.
-
UN has been reviewing data from east oatmeal pennsylvania and climate change is fake again

The continuing GOES-19 outage, which may continue into or even through this evening, is likely affecting HRRR smoke forecasts, as real-time satellite data is not present. That adds a dose of uncertainty into smoke conditions this afternoon and this evening. Here are recent conditions based on the observed data: Assuming a light westerly flow continues through this evening, some denser smoke will probably move into the New York City area this evening or early tonight.

At 1 PM I noted that we were in a severe-warned block, but when I went to find the parameters, GYX had dropped the SVR as the storm had weakened. First drops at 1:10 then at 1:15 RA+ and gust after gust arrived - trees pushed around like I hadn't seen since Dec 2023, probably well into the 40s. Strong but short of SVR criteria. 1:18 the genny kicked in (still running now at 2:15) and the heavy rain backed down by 1:20, nearly stopped at 1:25. 0.29" in the gauge, mostly in the 1:15-1:20 span. During the lighter rain a surprisingly wet hummingbird landed on the feeder only 3 feet from me and had a long drink. Only 2 strikes, both distant but enough that the dog hid. I walked out our gravel road, saw that the outage was caused elsewhere, and confirmed that none of the 120-foot-plus pines had fallen.

Just got done staining a large deck with oil base stain. My employee looked at me while wiping oil on his face while attempting to wipe away the sweat and said, this is hell on earth. How do you do it everyday. I said "because I like it". He told me I was sick in the head. It's 98, humid and smoky. What's not to like. Better then being in an office building.

I'm guessing there will be a lag with the live maps updating (they're still not working).

Surprised there's no heat advisory today when the heat index has gotten to 103/104 which is what was listed for the advisory a day or so before -
I just saw that - that's nuts. Even if it drops below 80 later before 1am, having them stay over 80 overnight is crazy.

GOES-19 Update #3 — Imaging expected to resume this afternoon NOAA reports that DCS and Search-and-Rescue services returned at 12:30 p.m. EDT on July 16. Engineers are now restoring the Advanced Baseline Imager, with GOES-East imaging expected to resume by 3:00 p.m. EDT today. Initial image navigation may be slightly degraded during the first hour. The remaining instruments will be restored in this order: ABI, GLM lightning mapper, SUVI, then the space-weather instruments. NOAA estimates that returning all GOES-19 instruments to normal operations will take approximately eight hours. This is the first official restoration timeline, but GOES-19 is not yet fully operational.
