E PA/NJ/DE Winter 2025-26 Obs/Discussion
Albedoman replied to LVblizzard's topic in Philadelphia Region
I have nearly 4 inches on the ground here in Macungie. Puking snow I said after the 15th and near the 22nd weeks ago. Hit it good on the prediction back in December. Actually will have to bring out my snow thrower - have not done that in almost year -

31 and light snow in Belle Mead NJ. Dusting on colder surfaces but not sticking to parking lot and roads. No big deal will probably get an inch or less on grass and no impact on travel IMBY -

currently 30F with moderate snow. Had some heavy snow a short while back when I got brushed with the COD yellows. Finally a nice daytime snow.
-
Sleet. Not sure I have enough to go with 0.1” of accumulation.

Mesoscale Discussion 0023 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0855 AM CST Sat Jan 17 2026 Areas affected...northern NJ into southwest New England Concerning...Heavy snow Valid 171455Z - 171800Z SUMMARY...Transient heavy snow is expected to shift northeastward in the Northeast to southwest New England through early afternoon. Rates should briefly reach 1 inch per hour before waning. DISCUSSION...A confined band of moderate to heavy snow with several half to quarter-mile visibilities ongoing across mainly southeast PA, north-northwest of the Philadelphia Metro Area, in association with a shortwave impulse progressing northeastward across the Northeast. 12Z observed and forecast soundings indicate the dendritic growth zone is centered between 575-650 mb. Ascent within and below this level appears likely to peak through about 18Z, which should favor snowfall rates around 1 in/hr. This should be transient at any one location as the burst of heavy snow shifts northeastward followed by drying in the dendritic growth layer. ..Grams.. 01/17/2026 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... For tomorrow, looks like things trended favorably for some snow back to I-95 and even some guidance going west of that! NAM Nest has actually been steady last few runs with its presentation. If it nails the thermals, this could be a sneaky good storm for the eastern shore. HRRR and RRFS aren’t as keen on it, but they are both outside their useful range. Just hope they aren’t on to something. Happy for everyone getting snow this morning! Pictures look great. Keep them coming!

Significant graupel fall here. Piling up sleet-style. Very few honest snow flakes mixing

Love it -
Still snowing lightly and bands developing just to my west, but I doubt much more, if any, accumulation. Hope other. A touch over 1" if it's acceptable to use a car roof as a snow board.

Is the NAM that much better though? Maybe like the difference between Ralph Wiggum and Chief Wiggum -

Now it’s sleeting

A little whitening on bare spots on the ground since we got very little precip. Was nice walking the dog while it was snowing lightly though!

Yeah I was concerned about pac energy breaking apart the +pna and torching canada, but recent ens runs stop short of doing that and still maintain western ridging. Canada will warm up yes, but we may stay NN/BN in the east and during this window that’s all we need.
