Took a little longer, until early afternoon for the drier air to reach my part of NJ but the mid and late afternoon turned out really pleasant with lots of sun, a breeze, lowering dews and temperatures right around 80.

My new favorite app is MapQuest- this seems to work as well as Google maps. I remember the days of printing MapQuest sheets out for college and work trips, so I’m enjoying the revival.

60's and overcast today with a Lake breeze. Some improvement this weekend before more rain enters the picture.

2026 C and E Pacific tropical activity
LongBeachSurfFreak replied to GaWx's topic in Tropical Headquarters
Yeah Oahu, which should be far enough east to avoid strong onshore flow from the circulation will likely see some of the biggest south swell it has seen in decades. Waikiki will likely look like the famed north shore during big winter swells. Captured fetch is really the key to maximize swell generation in a hurricane. It aligns the big three, wind speed, duration and fetch. -

2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino

On the one hand, the correlation between the keeling curve and global temps is strong and well documented, so I do think as a society we should be trying to lower carbon emissions. On the other hand…. This is a healthy attitude to have, take care of the environment, do our part and reject any anxiety, emotional pain or any other useless bullshit. It is very possible to acknowledge climate change is real, advocate for change, do what we can in our personal lives, and still choose to enjoy life and maintain a positive attitude rather than dwelling on the negative. I agree with you that the name calling was immature, unnecessary, and doesn’t accomplish anything. That’s a very Snowman19/Adam thing to do. Yeah he does, but he has a lot of growing up to do. -

It's getting old.

Modeling and the shorter range is coming together to miss Ni'ihau and Kauai to the west. The main official guidance is also locking in just far enough west to breathe easier. We still have to watch for any late adjustments back east to avoid impacts, but I feel a lot better about the core not impacting those two islands. Also, yes, the surf and wave action should be insane through the next week.

2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season
Stormchaserchuck1 replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Tropical Headquarters
The good news for hurricane lovers is that it's looking like a La Nina will develop next year. El Nino also really warms the globe a bit, lagged up to 1 year later, correlating with warmer SSTs. The last 3 Super Nino's have been followed by the following seasons: 2024: The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season was extremely active and destructive, featuring 18 named storms, 11 hurricanes, 5 major hurricanes, and causing $131 billion in damage with 442 fatalities. 2016: The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season produced 15 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes, with Hurricane Matthew being the strongest at 165 mph and causing over $16.5 billion in damage. 1998: The 1998 Atlantic hurricane season was catastrophic, producing 14 tropical storms, 10 hurricanes, and causing over 19,600 deaths, making it the second-deadliest season on record. -
