The current 30-yr annual avg is 47 days, and the longterm avg is 49 days, so we have already eclipsed season avg in early Feb. Congrats - SEMI's been having a p'good run this winter! 72nd straight day of snow cover (not a "T" lowest was a 1-day 1.5" right after the 50 deg rainstorm).

Depth at 9.5" equaling my highest back in December right before the holiday week warm-up. 2nd wave stays south but another disturbance on the models for Sunday could be measurable. Our depths been hovering between 8-9" the last 10 days or so too.

michsnowfreak
https://x.com/wxjerdman/status/2019729810914992195 I knew it was cold but didn't realize the impressive nature of it. January 15 - February 4 is the coldest 3 weeks of the year on avg to begin with. 2026 now ranks 3rd coldest for that 3 week stretch at Detroit in 153 years of record. Only 1918 & 1963 were colder. IWXwx
I picked up a quick 2" this morning as the snow is winding down. Back up to 5" on the ground. Had to take the wife to FWA at 5:30 and had graupel covering the road. Dropped her off at a little after six when it flipped to SN. Her 7:20 flight is still sitting on the tarmac. I'll bet she's pissed. 1

sbnwx85
Picked up 3” at home this morning. Now at 3.6” for the month and 70.2” for the season. The official South Bend site saw 4.8”(!) bringing the seasonal total to 81.1”.

dmc76
DTW has picked up 16.1” of snow (0.1–1.9” events) over 28 days — accounting for about 44% of the season total (36.3”).
Brian D
Cloudy with scattered flurries this morning. Some light snow is developing to my NW, might see a little later. Chilly morning away from the Lake with upper -sd's to -10's (sd's along the shore). Some -20's near the border with Seagull Lake the winner (again) at -29. roardog
Our below freezing streak should end on Tuesday. We've been below freezing since it dropped during the day on January 14th. We won't quite make it a full month but still not bad.

I would of thought you cashed in on a little LES. After the fast start its been mostly dusters here since Dec8th. Further east into downtown and north shore they've had some LES events. Every mile east of here matters as far as LES and being more under the clipper track this year. RFD still at 24" for the season but ORD up at 31"+. DTW even better along with a lot of Ohio relative to averages

If you want sun in the winter, Arctic cold is what you need. In Michigan that’s especially true later in winter when the lakes are at their lowest temperature and or have ice cover. One of the worst things about mild winters is the seemingly constant low clouds most days.

Brian D
Temps are looking mild for the next few days, which is a relief from the deep cold. Generally cloudy with scattered snow/mix shwrs possible thru tomorrow. Heating bill will be a little bigger for Jan, but now my furnace can chill a bit. One bad thing that happens every season with my power vented, forced air furnace, is when it runs hard for many days, condensation starts to collect in the vacuum lines. It'll start to miss fire, so have to pull those off, and drain the little bit of water. Those lines connect to solenoids, so I have to lightly blow, and suck back the air in them to make sure they are working properly. Then it's good for the rest of the season. Easy fix. It also has a Trion Air Bear filter system with it, so it cleans the air well. Get 2 years out of it.

That’s a lot more nickels than dimes lol. I think Columbus’s most snowy December was in 2000 or 2001 and not one 24 hour period greater than an inch …. Or something crazy like that. Deep winter here. Never lost any of our 12” snow, (to melting), since that storm back on the 25th. A couple of little refreshers thrown in there. But just as I get ready to head to Hawaii this week it looks like the thaw is in site! Would love to come home to bare ground and the beginning of a torch but probably coming back to ugly piles, patchy mud and grass and days on end of clouds and upper 30’s. Yay

Loving it but a thaw is overdue. Tons of nickel and dimes to keep the snow fresh. Two largest snowdalls here since mid January were 6.1" & 4.9".
