Today is the 50th day with 1"+ snowcover this season at DTW. The depth is 8".

The current 30-yr annual avg is 47 days, and the longterm avg is 49 days, so we have already eclipsed season avg in early Feb.

Congrats - SEMI's been having a p'good run this winter! 72nd straight day of snow cover (not a "T" lowest was a 1-day 1.5" right after the 50 deg rainstorm).

Solid 1.5" today with plows and snow machines all over the place this evening. Depth at 9.5" equaling my highest back in December right before the holiday week warm-up. 2nd wave stays south but another disturbance on the models for Sunday could be measurable.

Our depths been hovering between 8-9" the last 10 days or so too.

I knew it was cold but didn't realize the impressive nature of it.

January 15 - February 4 is the coldest 3 weeks of the year on avg to begin with. 2026 now ranks 3rd coldest for that 3 week stretch at Detroit in 153 years of record. Only 1918 & 1963 were colder.

I picked up a quick 2" this morning as the snow is winding down. Back up to 5" on the ground. Had to take the wife to FWA at 5:30 and had graupel covering the road. Dropped her off at a little after six when it flipped to SN. Her 7:20 flight is still sitting on the tarmac. I'll bet she's pissed.

Cloudy with scattered flurries this morning. Some light snow is developing to my NW, might see a little later. Chilly morning away from the Lake with upper -sd's to -10's (sd's along the shore). Some -20's near the border with Seagull Lake the winner (again) at -29.

I think I actually used the shovel once this season. Broom every other time.

I would of thought you cashed in on a little LES. After the fast start its been mostly dusters here since Dec8th. Further east into downtown and north shore they've had some LES events. Every mile east of here matters as far as LES and being more under the clipper track this year. RFD still at 24" for the season but ORD up at 31"+. DTW even better along with a lot of Ohio relative to averages

Cold winter days feature some of the deepest blue skies.

Yeah. If you want sun in the winter, Arctic cold is what you need. In Michigan that’s especially true later in winter when the lakes are at their lowest temperature and or have ice cover. One of the worst things about mild winters is the seemingly constant low clouds most days.

I always tell my brother. You want a mild winter? Say goodbye to the sun.
