Virga marches south and east IMG-1091.jpg

Thats not virga at 1400' in Stuart VA.  The farm cams are rocking some snow!  Have been for over an hour.

EDIT - beyond flurries now.  We have SN on the cams.  Lets go ahead and get the dusting out of the way!

Is anyone surprised by the radar returns that are lightened up south and west of NC?

If you look at the HRRR you can already tell it’s too dry. The NAM is closer. Not really surprising, the HRRR has been initializing dry all afternoon.

That’s an elevated warm front. Aka frontogenesis. That’s where theres the most lift and the banding will set up on that model.

I’m no pro. But Eric Webber pointed out that it’s some kind of warm font that can really create a huge axis of snow. He made a post on ex about it, but I don’t know how to link it.

Note the feature over e TN, sw VA into w NC is a wave on arctic front, the upper level low is still back around n.e. Missouri and central IL dropping southeast. Moderate snow partly lake enhanced has broken out over n/c IL associated with the upper low. This light to moderate snow band will catch up to the pivoting arctic frontal wave tonight and Saturday morning as the low begins to deepen more rapidly off the coast.
