-10's with some -20's (-sd's along the shore) this morning. Day winds have kicked up as well, keeping wind chills ugly. BTW, my deck is starting to pop now. With the severe cold later this week, more than likely the house will do the same. As the frost gets deeper, the house will shift slightly, creating popping noises. They are loud enough sometimes to make you jump.

Ice on the Lakes as of Jan 18. This will expand, and thicken quickly this week. Most of the ice is new/thin, with bays being medium thick. N bays of L Superior are thick. The residents of the Apostle Islands (NE of the Bayfield Peninsula) should have driveable ice by the end of the month. They use ferries during non-ice times.

I’m following things closely hoping to get the chance to walk into the sea caves this year if the ice is thick enough.

Frigid, windy day with some blowing snow in my neighborhood. The lake effect pixies plus blowing snow are making for tough conditions when you get into the northern part of St Joseph County. There’s a pile up on the Toll Road right now. I can’t even imagine how bad it must be along the west coast of Michigan today.

Deep winter for sure. Today was like a smaller scale 2014 with the bitter winds and constant blowing and drifting snow. We've picked up several dustings the past few days but the drifting snow today was the most noticeable. 

DTW snowfall January 8.7", season to date 25.5".

Here 8.8" January, 26.1" season to date.

If trends continue should be some awesome pics/video coming out of that swath.  Arklatex area/southern AR look like they could be ground zero where the ice band sort of pivots.
