hawkeye_wx
Earlier today, the CAMs were predicting a 6+" band along hw30 from central to eastern Iowa. As the afternoon has progressed, these models have shifted northeast and dried out. It looks more like 3-5 (hopefully still that much) across east-central Iowa. roardog
5 hours ago, frostfern said: Summer is invading winter. What happened to lake effect? Part of the issue is that the water temps have come way down over the last month. As of a couple of days ago Lake Michigan water temps were just a smidge above average and dropping fast. Lake Huron was average but dropping fast and Erie and Ontario were both below average now. I know you only care about Lake Michigan but the way the water temps are dropping, it’s going to take a significantly cold airmass for heavy lake effect snow. Also there was 1.2% ice cover already too.

Gonna be a close call here, but thinking we should stay all snow. Flake size has increased finally with enhanced radar returns moving in now. May really see it ramp up in intensity in the next hour or so. Up to about an inch now.

If it stalls south of you, you are really going to see some good rates and big flakes from those nice reflectivities crossing the mixing line into the snow.
TheNiño
We’ve started off pretty good here. MKE calling for possibly 6in near the lake in Kenosha and Racine counties with lake enhancement. Every snow so far has far exceeded my expectations. What a change from previous years (although even last year SE WI somehow locally cashed in during the few events we had). Loving this snowy start to winter. Dreaming of a White Christmas for once! Although this weather has been limiting how many Christmas lights and decorations are going up. cyclone77
Thinking we may have a hard time attaining the 3" mark. Precip upstream is looking pretty showery, and we just aren't getting the high rate/low vis type stuff that they got out in Iowa all day. Storm is definitely on the decline. Still a nice lil' refresher though.
