I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning. I'm usually a couple of degrees higher than a lot in here, I am hoping to break 40 but have a feeling that my low will be 40.1.

I got to 42F this morning with a little light breeze.

If no wind, I’m thinking we all get into mid 30s

Does anyone know Harrisburg’s earliest 1” of snow?

.

I have no idea how accurate this is ,but I do see other historical dates on there that work out. I took it from site called extreme weather watch and it doesn't seem very professional. I'm assuming the July ninth was probably hail or graupel they got recorded as snow.

Date Year Snowfall
July 9 1930 0.1 inches
October 19 1972 1.2 inches
October 20 1940 1.5 inches
October 29 2011 5.5 inches
October 30 1925 2.1 inches
November 2 1954 1.8 inches
November 3 1962 4.0 inches
November 3 1958 0.8 inches
November 3 1951 0.7 inches
November 5 1976 0.2 inches
November 5 1891 1.0 inches
November 6 1953 6.5 inches
November 7 1953 8.9 inches
November 8 1976 0.1 inches
November 8 1927 0.4 inches
November 8 1910 1.2 inches

I remember my grandmother saying it snowed in July a long time ago. I remember her saying the field corn was about knee high. She was born in 1901 and passed away in 1975. And my mother was born in 1923. Hard to believe it snowed in July, but anything is possible.

We had snow showers in Tamaqua in May of 2020 so I suppose anything is possible. I never thought I'd ever see May snowflakes, but we did that year.

Hey, isn't anyone going to congratulate me for virtually nailing the date?  The July date had to be hail, so throw that one out.  Next up is 10/19/72 and my guess was 10/17/72 !!  I can still remember the morning.  I was in 8th grade and had just turned 13, 12 days earlier.  The maple tree in my front yard was in full color and when I looked out the window there was snow all over the leaves, weighing them down.  Oh, one thing I forgot to mention...this occurred in northern New Jersey where I grew up.  I just figured if it happened around me it was at least a possibility that it could have happened out here.

The other date I gave was 10/10/79.  I was in community college, finishing up my last semester.  Again, woke up to it snowing and all leaves/trees were white.  I measured 2" with that event, which still stands to this day as my earliest recorded snowfall.

I don't really remember the 1972 event. I would have been 7 at the time and was well in tune with the weather. Maybe we didn't have any here in Lanco?

1979 I remember VERY well. Standing at the bus stop with snow falling and a dusting on the ground. Even though I was 14, that's still too young to really appreciate how novel of an event that was. The Orioles-Pirates World Series game in Baltimore was postponed that night due to wintry weather. :)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that is how a championship window slams shut yielding zero reward.

I'm getting a massive refund for my game 5 tickets plus I also had game 1 of the NLCS and game 4 of the WS.

Horrific way to lose, and a colossal waste of tremendous starting pitching. You cannot ask for anything more from the Phillies starters. They should collectively sue for malpractice.

On to Penn State!

Oh...hold the thought on that...

I hit 38 on the button and saw 37 in a couple of normally colder spots on way into office.  Scattered frost was noted in a few locations as well.

My low was 37 at home. No frost in the yard or in my immediate area but I saw plenty down in Manor Township on my way to work.

Many spots below 400 feet ASL saw freezing temperatures this morning across Chester and Berks counties. Freezing temperatures were recorded at West Chester, Chester Springs, West Bradford Twp. Devault, Warwick Township and Nottingham. The coldest reading was the 28.9 degrees at Warwick. Here in East Nantmeal at 685 feet ASL we recorded a low of 37.5. This is a record low for this date for this location with records since 2004. Regarding the weekend coastal storm some models have backed off a bit on the westward extent of the heaviest rain across Chester and Berks counties. Rain chances start to increase by tomorrow evening, and showers could continue into Monday.

I'm looking forward to a rainy day Sunday funday!  So is my yard that is freshly overseeded.

I love me a rainy Sunday in the fall. Football, chilly and darkness. I'll be in Pittsburgh at the Steelers game and will be anxious to see/hear what happens back this way as I won't be home until later Monday.

FWIW, Elliott isn't expecting much rain at all here, and probably little to none on Sunday itself:
