isn't CP all time high 106 from the 1930's? 112-114 wow. Has the earth warmed that much ? With the marine influence on the coast I doubt NYC temps could ever reach that high. The hottest day I ever remember was July 15th 1995. 102 with dewpoints near 80 could kill you. And it did for many of the old in Chicago.

I agree, the planet itself regulates how hot it can get.  It's not all about human induced climate change, but also the earth's own natural regulatory processes and how they interact with it.

For the city and Long Island, the peak is likely around 105-110.  JFK hit 104 in July 1966 and 103 in July 2011.  LGA hit 107 in July 1966 and 104 in July 2011 (as did Central Park.)  So the peak is likely between 105-110 for NYC and around 105 for JFK and points east. I don't factor in dew points or overnight temperatures since neither measure actual *heat*

If the sun keeps peeking through on occasion I may get to an hour of sunlight cumulative for the weekend. Glad to see some spotty showers popping up… maybe I can get a trace and get that streak to five days of precipitation. Getting warm out there too, broke 60 for a bit with a high of 62 so far! 60 now that the sun is behind clouds again. What a weather weekend…

Earth regulates with the heat budget you give it. You can balance your home budget whether you make 50k a year or 500k a year.

The Earth is simply getting a bigger heat budget so it will regulate itself at a higher temp level.

Yesterday was sunny at the beach. Today is overcast.

the literal opposite of the forecast

Yesterday a lot of us were cloudy for a good chunk of the day until we got a few hours in the afternoon with some breaks of Sun. Then of course the scattered showers/storms came afterward. You got lucky down there by the beach.

also with other properties, for example higher cloud cover and larger amounts of water vapor, which will likely put a cap on the extremely high temperatures, while the average temperature can still increase (thus a smaller range between min and max.)  This is what you see in the tropical rain forest.

Southern regions were better because we were further away from that pesky low.  We had sunshine in the morning and later in the day, the period of cloud cover was 2-3 hours between 11 am and 2 pm.

what exactly is keeping that pesky low from moving, Tony? it moved enough to get the rain out of here after Friday but then it stopped again?

ULL always are pesky to clear out with the cold air aloft, was always weary of the partly - mostly sunny forecasts till monday.  THink we go back to partly sunny later this afternoon.

It's becoming more difficult to bet on the change to warmer/hotter weather. The pattern of the cold cyclonic flow aloft keeps repeating itself to the point that I think it's going to be very hard to get out of this. Each time a curly cue upper low develops it helps the trough deepen along the coast allowing for more of them. Meanwhile the height rises/warmth and heat are well over the top and staying to our west. As I see it now this could be the story through a good part of June even. We may be waiting until the last week of June or first half of July to see our first 90+ degree day. For now it looks as though rainfall continues to be near to above average with mainly cooler than normal temps, maybe a few isolated warm days here and there but no warmer than normal pattern.

It’s freezing at Jones beach again. Fully clouded over, the never ending wind whipping. Three layers and I’m shivering and I’m a very large guy who doesn’t really get cold. Being up in a life gaurd stand fully exposed to the wind will do that.

I’m jealous. I’ll gladly take it today.

Could be worse-you could be here in Austin with me today where it’s currently 97, heat index 105. Absolutely disgusting, broiling heat. Chance of severe tomorrow so hopefully that works out

I guarantee you if the weather stays like this, the beach economy is going to go to shit.

It becomes extremely rare to see this kind of weather by June 20th.  Our weather changes usually time up well with the seasons. So just going by our climate alone, if this weather does keep going, I see less than a 10% chance of it continuing past June 15th or so. The rainfall has also been higher to our north  so I'd say that will continue too, with either average or below normal rainfall near the coast at our latitude.

Nice and sunny in S FL. Miami Beach around 90 with full sun.  Air show down here has been great, as you can be in the water swimming and enjoying the planes flying over  you compared to back home on land, since water is freezing.

Yeah this is why the beaches and swimming down there are considered much better than the ones up here lol.

beaches here staffed with lifeguard looking at empty beaches and certainly no one in the water.  Got to be boring as hell.
