Agree strongly with Franklin here.

seriously? We are not sending him up a forest service rd to an old firetower. 19 is a heavily traveled rd and will continually be plowed.

Cherohala or any windy mountain road is not a safe play here. US-19 is much more forgiving toward Maggie Valley, but still be prepared to U-turn for safety if the road gets bad esp up near the Blue Ridge Pkwy intersection. If you can make it to Maggie Valley, Cataloochee Ski Area takes excellent care of their own road up.

Tomorrow I would position in northwest NC maybe Avery County ski areas. Appears a second short-wave will get snow showers peculating well in classic NWFS tomorrow. Plenty of lodging is available by ski areas and at reasonable prices midweek. If making a long trip this afternoon consider swinging wide on Interstates where possible for safe travel.

I don't know that particular area but I know with this type of cold the roads are going to be a mess even if plowed if it's anything like 421 N into Boone. Only he knows what his ride and experience can handle. I often find it more slick on roads that are plowed.

I might head to soco tonight as some things have come up for tomorrow evening. If you turn into the parkway there is a good sledding hill. You have to hit it during the event as afterwards it can get kind of crowded.

Go through Cherokee..Its much closer than going all the way to Waynesville and doubling back through Maggie Valley

Take exit 74 off of the road your on now..Go aprox 3 or 4 miles to a Mcdonalds and take a right. Go about 1 mile to red light at casino..Take a right..Now your on 19 headed for SOCO. Good luck

If this keeps up we won't see the totals predicted here in Boone...dumps for an hour and gives us a half inch and then sun comes out and temps rise above freezing and melts it all. Let's hope the heaviest stuff falls over night.

Wasn't the majority of snow supposed to fall tonight into tomorrow?
