I caught on about 430 pm that afternoon...as it was readily apparent that I was in a shred-zone on RAD....folks kept telling me "it will fill in from the west!" Right. "*uck this", I thought...as I moped out to the car to hit up my friend's Halloween party. 12 hours and 4" later, I sat gazing out of the window at an entirely mundane snowfall, impressive by October standards as it was. I was pleased my game-time call to flee the weather vigil. One of the best weather calls of my life. Some swore up and down that would fill in. Still waiting. Mine might be the (non) blizzard just 18 days later, when a blizz-warned 12-18" forecast became 1.5". (Was quite windy, though.) The January storm was my greatest "Wish you were here" event - the most powerful January storm to hit my residence area in my lifetime, and I was in SNJ watching a 12-16" forecast become 1.5" of mush that was gone 3 hr after the flakes ended.
