Wow Posted December 6, 2011 Share Posted December 6, 2011 The 2011 Annual Donation Drive has begun! We've come a long way from our beginning just a little over one year ago. We want to thank all of those who have helped make us what we are. Soon after starting the forum we managed to collect over $6000 in donations in just a couple of months which has helped to cover nearly all of our budgeted expenses for this year. Again, thank you for your generous donations. Since starting up, we have managed to complete several major tasks, with the help of our donations, including: Upgraded our hardware to a dedicated server Upgraded our board software Purchased board modifications and add-ons to improve usage Organized board activity under an LLC to help with organization and legal issues. Presented our first annual American Weather Conference This year we are setting up a projected goal amount of $7500. Our goals with this money includes: Cover hosting fees Upgrade server setup to 2 dedicated web and database servers Cover future board modifications and add-ons (such as an Image Gallery) Hire web developer to construct a weather model center Help cover some of the overhead for the 2012 American Wx Conference DONATOR FEATURES Upon donating $10+, you will be placed into a secondary "donating" group for (1) year which will give you the following benefits: Ad-free environment - All current and future ads will not be visible. Ability to attach files in PM messages Access to the Arcade Additional benefits may be added in the near future. HOW TO DONATE We have upgraded the donation application to work with our recent board upgrade. You may donate at the index sidebar box or click here to be directed. Upon sending in a donation amount of $10 or more, you will be added to a new donation group which will remove all types of ads on the site for one year. We will continue to run guest ads and certain ads for regular members. While the revenue produced from the ads are helpful, they only cover a fraction of the costs needed to run our board. Additionally, we are not classified as a "non-profit" company so any donation made is not tax deductible. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAIL IN A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER, PLEASE USE THE DONATION SYSTEM AND SELECT "OFFLINE PAYMENT" Thank you all for making this the best, most informative weather message board out there. I'm thrilled that with working 4 jobs right now IO'll actually have some extra to finally make a donation. I'll be seeing some nice green in 3 weeks so will the donation drive still be going on then? Wow Posted December 7, 2011 Author Share Posted December 7, 2011 Just noticed a bug in the donation application - It will not allow secondary group promotions without a primary group promotion (which we don't want to happen.) So, in the meantime while we figure out a solution, I have made it so it will correctly automatically promote current MEMBERS to the donation ad-free secondary group. You have to put in the amount you want to donate, hit the donate button. You will have two choices for payment..once is paypal..the other is "offline". Choose offline. The 2 main reasons why the goal total went down it is now accounting for paypal fees, and I also deleted some unapproved offline donations which have been sitting around for a while. I would've received a check by now, and for some reason that total includes them. The total stats bar below it only accounts for approved amounts which is why it does not match the other total.
