  1. Also late to the party re: 12/30/00, but I suspect that one inflicted some trauma on @wdrag. That remains the greatest bust of my lifetime in Boston metro. If I recall, NWS had to walk back the WSW from 8-14" (may have been 10-16") down to 4-8... 3-6... and in the city we wound up with - I swear - wet pavement. Nada after an hour of wet snow it both changed over and we got dry slotted. Incredible. Outside of 128 I think it was a 10" storm, but inside it was a total bust and the gradient reached 0 in the city.
  2. Also late to the Party... Blizzard of 96 remains my all-time favorite. Had just returned to C'Ville from winter break... did so early knowing storm was coming. No school yet, nothing to do. 23" that fell was more impactful than storms I've experienced since in Boston and NYC because they couldn't keep up with plowing of course!
  3. Can confirm: full snow globe effect on UWS.
  4. Sleet and fat snow flakes mixing in on the UWS.
  5. Thanks, Don! That's odd... I'll have to look at the raw data. This is an ingestion of the raw daily data from NOAA Climate Data Online. The only transformation i did was to decode the years to be a snowfall season and it appears to have worked overall. (i.e. so Jan '96 is part of the 1995-1996 season).
  6. Thought I'd throw this in here... Christmas break project - Downloaded the full climo data set for CPK with a goal of creating some simple, easy to navigate data sets and visualizations... As soon as I started I realize "I should wait until this weekend and have all of 2020... So until then, here's monthly and seasonal snow totals, sortable...
  7. Wind was rocking here last night. I’m in a new place on the Hudson river. 14th floor. Had a freight train sound to it. We got to sleep around 2:00 and woke back up about 2:50 when, according to some of the obs, all hell seemed to break loose. Now with video
  8. I loved that storm. I’ll take 10” a week before Christmas any year over stressing whether we have an inch on the ground on 12/25. The city is magical right now. We haven’t had a snowfall with staying power like this in a long time. And in December?
  9. I measured 7" on the ground on Riverside Drive this morning, so glad to hear CPK reported 10" Anyone lamenting the fact that we didn't reach the high end potential has to go outside and absorb the fact that we have - at least here in the city - 7-10" of powdery snow blowing and drifting a week before Christmas. It is spectacular outside.
  10. @wdrag - can confirm 7 inches on the ground at 10 AM on Riverside Drive. Took measurements in the grass in multiple locations.
  11. Back from a walk about 30 minutes ago. Stunning , picture perfect. Approaching 5”of pure powder on UWS at 8 PM by my estimate. Pictures soon.
  12. Would have thought so. Last night there was even some remnant traces on the grass near Riverside Park.
  13. I'll take whatever we get this winter, but I am looking forward to any picturesque snow we get. We moved this fall and are right by Riverside Park... there are many Jebwalks in my future and I'll be amping my snow photography game again. We also have a good line of sight across multiple blocks that will allow me to estimate visibility with precision. So bring (whatever) on...
  14. Been living in this 20th floor apartment for 5 years and needless to say this is tops. Just howling.
  15. Looks like a nasty cell headed from Long Beach to queens/Brooklyn and then Manhattan.
  16. Nice. Jackpot over NYC. What are the ratios? 10:1?
  17. Really nice little storm. Perfect Saturday afternoon mood snow. Park was great and people were sledding.
