It’s been impressive. Not sure about the validity of the 1911 stretch, but if you toss that then Fairbanks tied the next coldest reading of -49. 4 record mins this month and lots of runner ups.

I was out there Feb break. Bridger Bowl had snow and good conditions. The town felt like I took a trip to the Carolinas for the break. People out in shorts tossing the football. It was freaky

Today was the 3rd day in a row of Phoenix hitting 105, which not only obliterates another daily record but also again ties with the hottest on record in April. The day prior to the 105 string was 102. Prior to this string, the hottest on record in all of March was only 100, set on March 26th in 1988. More 100+ days are quite possible next week! Crazy!

Regarding the West heat... Ever notice that the opposite is largely ignored? How about central AK this winter? FAI records in infographic attached that still continue currently (31 days now w/ lows -40 or below and now up to 140 in a row not exceeding 32). FAI is running -22.6 F for the month so far. Or the extent of below avg temps across North America earlier in the week? You can't focus on just one area and run w/ that. Or how about all-time state record March highs? The attached map is not updated for the new state records in CA/NV/AZ/UT and the 98 in MA I think is off, but take note that 40 of 50 states set their March all-time record highs 50+ years ago, and most them 95+ years ago. What caused it all then? All valid points here.

The 5-minute obs show that Cedar Rapids did hit 90º today. CR's previous record first 90º day was April 10th, 1930. We smashed it by three weeks. Update: Despite the intra-hour measurements, the official high is showing as 89º as we didn't quite hit 90º. The intra-hour measurements are apparently rounded up.

And the vast majority of days in Chicago (ORD anyhow) will be >50° going forward, so I’m not sure what the problem is exactly.
