Some locations were able to sneak in a couple of early October 90°'s this past weekend. MDW was one of those locations, with a high of 90° on Friday. ...2025 90°+ Day Tally... 31 - MDW 29 - ARR 28 - DPA 28 - PWK 27 - ORD 22 - LOT 20 - RFD 19 - UGN

Yeah, we used to have the old Alden Difax machine back at college in the mid 80s. Sometimes we would come into the weather lab after the weekend and all the maps would be stuck inside. Even when the machine was working correctly, the model graphics weren’t very high detail.

Central PA Fall Discussions and Obs
Itstrainingtime replied to ChescoWx's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
Snippet from Elliott's discussion today - this seems a good bit earlier than most years if it materializes: Thursday will be the coolest day since late May despite abundant sunshine. It won't be as windy as tomorrow, but a north-northeasterly breeze of 8-16 mph will make the outdoor air feel even chillier. I then expect the first widespread frost of the season across northern MD and the Lower Susquehanna Valley Thursday night. A Canadian high pressure system will settle into southern New England and northern PA late this week and promote efficient, radiational cooling after sunset. Winds will be very light or calm Thursday night, and dewpoints should be in the upper 20s to low 30s under clear skies. Temperatures often bottom out near the dewpoint on clear, crisp fall nights, and this case should be no exception. In fact, temperatures may bottom out between 30-32°F in the deepest valleys and most outlying areas early Friday morning. They'll be significantly higher (38-40°F) in urban centers such as York, Lancaster and Harrisburg. In the majority of locations, lows will range from 32-36°F (see below). Regardless, the frost will likely put an end to the growing season in most spots, so bring tender plants/vegetation inside or apply a protective covering over them Thursday evening. -
Not gone yet . Wild pressure gradient develops

If it wasn't for the chance of thunderstorms that come with the heat and humidity i wouldn't find anything about summer appealing. And around 500,000 hunters in the state im sure enjoy more then just the colors of fall.
-
I’m sick of summer overtime. Bring on the Cold Front!

Wow, I've not looked at those maps in a long time ! Reminds me of the old DIFAX days.

Has the look of another over-achiever on sat. HWRF says it gets close to a mid October cat 5. I’ll start putting a little more stock in the hurricane models now that we have a defined system.

4th straight day of 84+ at CON. lol -
Thanks, I am way down South, and humidity is down to 56 percent (KEEN, across the river). Still, air 79F and dewpoint 62F. Overcast, warm and sticky.

I am ready for snow November 1st. But I enjoy the cool crisp days with the color. Which looks like we will have this week.

Herps derps has at least half an inch for all tomorrow morning

Yea, I also waited to aerate and overseed. I was going to do it two weeks ago, but I was away for much of that time and with the forecast not promising for rain, I waited. I am hoping for enough rain tonight and tomorrow morning so I can aerate and get good plugs. Then I’ll seed regardless and water if I have to. Also, I looked back and it’s only been a couple recent years that were turds for precip in September and October, but it seems like it’s been longer to me. Here’s to hoping everyone gets drenched overnight.

I still have not done the overseeding yet. Keep putting it off due to heat and now if there is a wash out that would be bad. Its a gamble as to when the first frost hits. Normal time is late October, but hopefully with these everlasting Falls maybe it waits till the third week of November. Hard to say. Believe you need 45 days post over seed for seeds to live.

While I understand people enjoy the colors, there is nothing else about fall that is appealing. Okay cool enjoy the colors but once that's done, I think most are ready to fast forward to snow.
-
more progressive cutoff energy than the models that show rain
-
Government shutdown?
-
You got RGEM? For tomorrow.
-
Why is too much to ask for a normal September and October precip-wise to get overseeding done? It seems like it has been a struggle the last four or five years.

What highway are you taking?

I see no Canadian products ran at 12z. I'm sure they're just glitching out.

Never believed in the Euro or GFS verbatim for this. There's still a lot to sort out. It obviously won't be tropical, but I still think this could fiddle with subtropical depending on where the original low wants to meander.
