  1. Past hour
  2. Recent studies have found that if the natural Grasslands weren’t removed, then there wouldn’t have been a Dust Bowl. But a typical drier pattern that has occurred over intervals of time in the past. None of the previous drought patterns produced that type of heat. The record heat was a function of the desertification brought on by the the land use practices during that era.
  3. Yeah I saw ants swarming around my steps when I went to get the mail the other day, that reminded me to get started.
  4. Going to be a real bummer if we can’t tap into the volatile atmosphere tomorrow. 50/50 shot in S MI/N IN.
  5. Storm development in VA looks more widespread than hrrr and 3k NAM suggested. More like FV3.
  6. But it’s been a challenge to sustain a quality +PNA ridge with the overpowering Pacific Jet. In one scenario a piece of Pacific energy digs too much out West and pumps the Southeast Ridge causing a Great Lakes cutter storm track. The next repeating pattern has been the hugger storm track along I-78 to I-84 with too much energy out west pumping the Southeast Ridge just enough for a quick change from snow to rain. The 3rd common storm track has been too much energy coming into the Western US acting as a kicker trough suppressing lows to the south. So this fast Northern Stream of the Pacific Jet has been working against Benchmark storm tracks even with blocking patterns which used to produce KU events when we had daily -5 AO readings in the past Februaries.
  7. Good idea. Sprayed around the perimeter a few weeks ago for ants, but need to get something for the yard.
  8. Hit 74.3° an hour ago, now sitting at 71°- was only expecting upper 60's to near 70.
  9. Make sure you spray something to keep the bug population from coming inside your house too.
  10. moderate to heavy rain here now I hope this doesn't cause the bug population to explode, remind me to spray Bug Barrier when the sun comes out on Sunday, I spray it all around my property to keep the bugs out.
  11. Pouring in Union County.. nice banding coming off the ocean
  12. hm another day i was not prepared for the shear gorgeousness ... I thought for sure we'd be grunged in but the sun's been out since 10:30 more than not and it's clear to 75 now
  13. Yep same now
  14. Same here in eastern NYC, really coming down now.
  15. 2.17" and light rain after that downpour. Over 3" since yesterday. That's enough for the rain please. Won't be able to mow my lawn for a week. Need to drain the pool for the 2nd time today.
  16. Regardless of enso, cc, or anything else, winters always ebb and flow. They always have and they always will. Many factors can absolutely influence, but they aren't a slam dunk for anything. We dont get noreasters in the southern Great Lakes and the 2000s saw above average snowfall at Detroit while the 2010s were the snowiest decade on record. It was just a great period for many.
  17. "That said, ML Severe Weather Probs from both NSSL and Colorado State show rather high probabilities in SNE Saturday so the threat still exists. Localized wind damage would be main threat from thunderstorms but given large number of outdoor events, everyone should be aware of potential for lightning Saturday and have a safety plan ready." So they're saying there's a chance. Better than nothing I suppose.
  18. Detailed thread about recent trends in the Indian Ocean and ENSO regions, and indicators as to which seasonal models are more likely to have the right idea on ENSO situation during peak hurricane season: https://x.com/yconsor/status/1922643952135557481
  19. Yep extremely heavy downpour here right now. Will probably end up with 1.50" to 2.00" for the day here.
  20. Those fokes up there are no weekend hikers. I perfer extreme winter conditions so I don't do tropical rain like the Appalachian trail hikers. I perfer blizzards and extreme cold. Don't worry. They knew it was coming and everyone either enjoyed it or hunkered down.
  21. Absolutely pouring. Approaching 2" today. Going to be about .75" in 30 mins
  22. Thanks! My house there is just one county north of Allentown and they had 2.6 inches of rain with the last storm, so it must be rather muddy there now.
  23. I work in downtown Allentown, which is on the edge of heavier rains and it's just lightly raining now. My educated guess is that Stroudsburg/Poconos have gotten hit harder. Probably 2 inches of rain at my house the last 24 hours, just south of the Poconos.
  24. Today
  25. Wow. No plants in the deep south. I love when he learns something new and tries to incorporate it in without mentally processing it first.
