@UMB WXDid I bed your wife while I was sleep walking or something? Jesus, bunned after every comment....I don't recall there being much of a history there, so it's bizarre. -
It’s got to be a real experience living in one of these supertalls. The Brooklyn Tower is having the same issues as 432 Park. Very loud noises and more sway than the residents were told about before they bought or rented. Plus this year set the record for days with wind gusts over 40 mph by a wide margin behind all these storms racing through the Great Lakes like what we are going to see a repeat of again the next few days. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DS0cuaxDEzD/?igsh=NDg2cDVkNTFmNWk0

34 degrees this morning. Not sure where I am with rain Totals. Guessing around .20” Rain gauge didn’t really like the freezing stuff. Deer showed up in the neighbors yard last night. First time since hunting season. Now I guess wait for the winds. Hope everyone keeps power! -

Absolutely, but it's not going to be a strong, or even a particularly coherent wave...I think the first week of January is a lot like latter December in that regard. -

driveway and roads were very icy.. but meh on anything more -
The raw NAM point forecasts from just west of Newark out across NYC and the 5 boroughs were too low for snowfall. Multiple runs only had around 1-2 inches of snow where around 4” verified. So the NAM was overdone on the warm nose. But globals like the GFS and Euro were underdone on this feature and dry slot. So these models were incorrect to forecast warning level snows at times for NYC and points west. No one model is going to be correct about everything. So we have to blend the models to get something closer to reality. This blending is why I went 3-5” for NYC. But areas further east across Long Island where I went 5-8” were more accurately portrayed by other models. Although some NAM runs maintained all snow in these areas. We need a new NAM since the model hasn’t been updated since March 2017. One of its biggest issues is how jumpy it is from run to run. This leads to some not taking anything the model says seriously. Even when the theme that NYC and points west would nit get warning level snows which turned out to be correct.

32F/ icy conditions......DUH! would rather have snow. -
Appears we're waiting for mid January for something possibly substantial for the entire forum. This mornings AIGFS shows one way of doing it. Last nights GFS showed it as well. We will see if we can land a storm during that time.

Looks, blocky, cold over the NE, and potentially snowy to me.. Top analogs in this look are several top 10 snowstorms for SNE and NYC metro .. Including Boxing Day 2010, Dec 22 2009, Jan 2016, Dec 30 2000, and several from the 50s and 60s. -
We already have an inch down IMBY. I opened the door to let the dogs out back and the cold, snow and wind is like slap in the mouth… especially compared to 64 degrees yesterday. Forecast was upped to 3-7” overnight. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get upgraded to a warning if the lake effect continues today.

Another day another mid day FROPA. Seems that once a pattern develops, most storms follow it. Nocturnal storms. Four AM start times. Dinner time endings, and so on. While there is some deviation, it seems like storm timing follows a seasonal routine once established. Or maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there... -

That was the last real cold blast in the Eastern US. That was also the only winter in the last decade (since 2015-16) that didn't have a uber warm (+5.0 temperature departure) month in the November-March period. If we don't get a torch month in January, February, or March, we would really be bucking a trend. -

20 F and snow leaving the house on the way to Auburn area, should be an exciting drive... 1.1" of snow, hope we can hang on longer to snow like some of the Hi-res stuff is showing.
