Sierra may get a storm but the upshot of it is torrential RAIN at 9,500 feet with a flooded start to the ski season at Mammoth, record amounts of water accumulations to ski in on Opening Day! They might have to break out the water skis! They are gonna need a bigger boat! On the Slopes!

He's a snow weenie. He went big a few years ago and it was the kiss of death. Tom always goes early.

I feel your pain - 2025 so far exceeds any other year of memory for meh. --Only one snow event over 4" (8.0" in mid-Feb) --January had only 5.6" with the month's 'biggest' of 2.1". --No 1"+ precip days until Sept 25 --Only 5 days with thunder; previous low was 8 in 2010. --Met summer brought only 2 such days - avg is 10.5 and another record few (5 in 2010). --No significant wind events. Only 2 wx phenomena of note: --The drought, which is about as exciting as watching paint dry (and with my knee replacement in late June, I couldn't do much to help the garden cope). --Only our 3rd heatwave in the 28 summers here, and 4 total days of 90+ - only 2002 (7) had more. (Note: I don't like droughts and I don't like big heat. Things can only get better. ) -

Pretty uniform around the metro - 29.8F here to your south a bit (upper NW DC).

I install 4 or 5 every week. This was a little pricey because there was a long wire/pipe run through the garage and basement to get to the transfer switch. Cost was $22k. We have guys that do all the trenching and site work, and then we sub out the plumbing. All of that is included in the cost. This is also why I love warm winters. Installs are really tough when the ground is frozen!

Our 13kw Generac fully furnishes our needs; it ran for 101 straight hours from the Dec 2023 storm with no issues. (26kw = big house, at least compared with our 960 sq.ft. plus the loft.) The actual unit was about $3k but the total was north of $10k. The electrical work was almost as expensive as the genny itself, and the purchase/installation/filling of two 100-gallon propane tanks came to over $4k. We also tossed ~$750 for a screening fence around the tanks. -
That's interesting. We got down to 26, yet the ground did not freeze. I'm ok with that, as we have lots of flowers that survived.

Actually their snow came from a different mechanism than what causes our big snows. I actually asked PSU about it when it happened and he said it actually could be possible for the Gulf Coast to score the way they did while at the same time we permanently lose big snows. Now he does not believe we've reached the point where the once a decade big snow storm is a thing of the past but snowfall is still in an overall decline due to a loss of the smaller marginal events.

Are they for real? I've eaten a lot of interesting things but squirrel hasn't made the list yet!
