Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs
Itstrainingtime replied to MAG5035's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
Still have power here...for now. The winds this afternoon picked up and deposited one of our Adirondack chairs into our fire pit. This chair is one of the "real" chairs that weighs a ton. No wind event previously has done that. -

Our daughter had her first day as a lift operator today. Wawa just opened their new summit lift. One good thing about that one is that they build a shed building where they store the chairs overnight. That’s a first for them. Should help a bit on icy days. -
It's not in Thurmont. The station is at Camp David which is at nearly the highest point in the Catoctins. https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=KRSP

Saw a post from NH electric coop of the Plymouth and wentworth area. Looks like a small area of serious icing and you’re the lucky one to be in it. -

I went out for a hike this morning in the humidity and couldn’t wait for the front to pass. Turned into a perfect day!
-
And there is the freezing mark at 4 pm. Currently 31.9/16.0 with a few flurries and WNW wind 17 gusting to 37 mph. WC running 20.8 to 16.2 with those winds.
-
It’s not like 2023 at all for the fact the defense is so good. If they don’t turn the ball over they win 9 times out 10. It wouldn’t shock me if they repeated or went out in the first round though.

Southern New England and final updated CT snowfall map for the Boxing Day December 26-27th, 2025 Snowstorm. Thank you everyone for the reports, i just finished all these maps but if there's any obvious errors or corrections let me know. The forecast for this was very solid. The area of 3-6" was a bit more expansive than we thought but overall the ranges and general idea was spot on. CT grade A-, SNE B+ @Sey-Mour Snow I put together a brand new super map by combining Tri-State with SNE to get a broader view. The airports are also highlight in yellow for these. Something new i tried for this season. https://www.jdjweatherconsulting.com/lower-northeast-25-26 -
Folks to our south are excited, which is a great sign.

Snowfall totals from the Boxing Day December 26-27th, 2025 Snowstorm. Thank you everyone for the reports. I tried to include everyone here but some reports overlap or theres more than one for a location, so i did the best i could. This took a very long time, about 10 hours, so i may have made an error or two If there's any corrections let me know. This event will go up in the archive with sfc/h5/radar when they become available. The forecast for this was very solid. We nailed the ranges and lower snowfall amounts around the city and NNJ. The 6-10" area was a little higher and narrower than forecast, but overall it was pretty close. B+ for Tri-State. https://www.jdjweatherconsulting.com/tri-state-25-26 I created these brand new super maps by combining the Tri-State with SNE. These map also highlight all the airports in yellow to be easily seen. Here is the first map for the region. I went back and put together all the Lower Northeast maps for each accumulating event this season and they are here: https://www.jdjweatherconsulting.com/lower-northeast-25-26

32.2F No power for 6 hours. Our whole hill is out. This has turned into a significant event here. There has been almost no melt off on trees or power lines today. Untreated surfaces that were not treated are an ice skating rink. Yesterday I wanted to put a big blue tarp over the part of the driveway we use but "someone" ha, in my family said that would look stupid and I'm overreacting. The biggest problem is yet to come. Maybe a very brief warmup with fropa mixing but with the wind and the trees this is going to cause more power issues. Plus, the glaciated surfaces are not going anywhere fast!
