Wednesday 7/16/25 @ 5:30am | More afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are expected across central PA today. Locally heavy rain may lead to rainfall amounts of several inches, which could result in flash flooding. Isolated strong to damaging thunderstorm winds are also possible.

93L – “Inactive” Season Posting Check-In
GaWx replied to BarryStantonGBP's topic in Tropical Headquarters
Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 AM EDT Wed Jul 16 2025 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America: 1. Northeastern and north-central Gulf (AL93): Surface observations indicate that a broad area of low pressure continues to move westward across the Florida Panhandle and is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity mainly south of its center. This system is forecast to continue moving westward, and could emerge or redevelop over the far northeastern to north-central portion of the Gulf, reaching the coast of Louisiana by Thursday. If this system moves far enough offshore, environmental conditions over the Gulf appear generally favorable for additional development, and a tropical depression could still form over the next couple of days before the system moves fully inland by the end of the week. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida through through today. Heavy rainfall could also cause flash flooding for portions of the north-central Gulf Coast beginning late today and continuing through Friday. For additional information, please refer to products issued by your local National Weather Service office. * Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent. * Formation chance through 7 days...medium...40 percent. -
Very divergent pattern on the GFS op vs the GEFS in the 8-15 range. The GEFS is generally AN for the area with AN precip. The 0z GFS is wet and way BN temp wise for the same period.

No, that would cause upwelling. Onshore from east, northeast, or light southeast will also sustain warmth. Strong west or strong southeast will upwell like I mentioned happened last summer. -

A pretty fast moving small shower has moved NW from offshore to here on the NE side of Invest 93L. There may be more to come within the next couple of hours.

The great thing is that we’ll likely have radar coverage the entire time to monitor trends. There’s deep convection firing as this moves offshore. That’s where you want to watch for a center reformation. -

Good tip. Thanks. I’ll def look into this as a medium to long term solution. I’m very much about the micro ecosystem and sustainability but when I see 500 beetles on my 3’ willow tree the beetle bazooka comes out. -
Mosquitos are starting to enter feast/beast mode.

Fans in open windows tonight. Nice to take a break from the AC for a night. I love warm summer nights, just don't really care for AC. -

You’re favorite days, the days when the south shore shoots well over 100 on a strong offshore flow often see brutally cold water temps. Near shore water temps were in the low 60s on the hottest day of the June heatwave with tons of upwelling. Super shock from the system to go from 100+ on the sand to water that chilly. The Gulf Stream is too far offshore to have any real effect on our waters. It follows the end of the continental shelf. Occasionally an eddy will spin off that gets relatively close. As far as effects on tropical activity, our exposure to a major is increasing. We have always been able to support a major up to the latitude of the Gulf Stream but then had a nice buffer to weaken storms that weren’t rocketing north like 38. Out waters still technically can’t support a major (allot of it is depth related) but the weaking effects of water around 26c aren’t that pronounced. -

Correct. Praying Mantis are tick killing ninjas but they also will prey on beneficial native insects when the pest insects are mostly devoured. You can buy their egg cases on-line. -
