My peak gust was 18.9 mph just after 1:00am according to my station.

The QBO should be at a large - number heading into Dec-February. It's rare to see it below -20 in the winter months just due to timing. We are living almost in a golden era that it's happened three times since 2015. Each was a pretty cold winter for a good portion of the forum area, or at least had a very cold section of winter. The only other times it was at -20 in January was 1959 and 1966. That said, how negative it is doesn't matter as much as it's direction. As long as it's dropping, we're good, if it's negative but rising, it's less good. We are in month 6 of it being negative. As a rule, it drops for 9-12 months in a row once it turns negative. So it should start rising between March and Juneish, meaning we should be good for winter. A lot of our notable/legendary winters were with it falling.

The Euro is also really cold. My afternoon temp is 30 on Monday. Lows in the lower 20s.

2:15am, moon probably at it brightest angle/ spot right now. Clear skies. I could have a football catch without any actual electric lights. The deer are probably a little perplexed. They usually come out of the woods overnight because it's dark but you can see them clear as day.

DT WxRisk thinks that this winter could be somewhat like 2013-2014. That would be EPIC for the Mid Atlantic.

GB16 was the BEST. We got 27 inches of snow and I got to dig snow til I was utterly exhausted. I had to dig Dad a path for the car to the road, then the next door neighbor demanded I dig her car out, then the neighbor next to her said hey Jebman, get off that weather board and dig my car out of this 7 foot drift so I did. Then Bill across the street wanted some help. I said I was too damn tired. He replied I'll tell YOU what WE are tired of: You wishin for big snows like this! Now get out here Jebman and dig out my car! I got a five foot drift over it. I shoveled it. Finally, I figured I'd done my share of the digging out of Dale City from the Great Blizzard of 2016. But no. The Hispanic lady across from us then wanted me to dig her car out. So I wearily dug her out too. Fortunately the snow there had been blown away and it was only a foot deep. I was actually tired of snow. I stumbled inside the house and Dad teased me saying aren't you gonna dig out the sidewalk too? And the ROAD? I collapsed on the couch. Boy did Dad kid me the next couple of days, especially when that damn PLOW left a 5 foot BERM right across our driveway entrance!

Basically all the 0z models are getting closer to the Euro depiction regarding the trough kicking of snow showers across parts of the forum area. The GFS is still showing the least. The ICON took a pretty big step towards the Euro. Now we wait for the Euro itself. Sometimes the other models climb on board and then it loses things.

No power here, but without rain and the worry of a flooded basement, I’m good.

I’m not nearly as negative about Feb as many here, but that surprises me. Just curious, what do you think many of us who are less optimistic about Feb are missing? Or are you just less optimistic about January? edit: I just saw your post raising concerns about the pac jet for January.
