Central PA Summer 2026 Discussion/Obs Thread

At 3:30pm here in Carlisle...the temperature is 99.1 degrees. This is the high for the day thus far, and also the high for the year-to-date. The dew point is 77.6 degrees. Combined this produces a heat index of 117.7 degrees F. Skies continue to be mostly sunny. I am revising my opinion from 3 hours ago concerning the probability of hitting 100 degrees. I would now say that there is a 90% chance I will hit 100 degrees and maybe go on to hit 101, which is the NWS forecast for me for today. Tomorrow marks the 6th anniversary of the closing on my home. I don't know where the years are all going. We're precisely halfway through this year! I'll be back with another update when I have officially reached 100 degrees. By the way, my high temp for last year was precisely 100.0 degrees, but with lower dew points. >>>Edit...I'm a day early with my NWS 101 forecast. As of this morning the high for today was forecast to be 98 degrees. Then 101 tomorrow and 102 degrees Friday, July 3rd. -
Air temp in Poolesville hit 97°, new record high temperature for the site.

Dang, I thought it wasn’t supposed to hit 100 until tomorrow. Gonna get spicy in Vegas by the weekend…already getting chippy, but it’s desert dry…probably because it’s the Mojave.

Currently 94/73. That's the high for the day. Feels pretty sultry and miserable out there if you move a little with the high DP. Standing in the shade and not doing anything feels ok for awhile.

Haha, I spent far too much time and money playing around with temperature sensor locations and shielding all around my yard. It was a frustrating eye opening experience. Sent from my SM-S731U using Tapatalk -
Its good that you are thinking about these specific and different circumstances. There is rarely one right answer. However, there are agreed upon accepted official standards, both national and international, about how measurements should be carried out, including the specific measurement techniques, calibration, and uncertainty analysis. As someone who teaches metrology, what caught my eye in your OP was questioning why official air temperature is measured in shade(whether it's at a height of 5, 8, or 10 meters is less important). That's what I was focused on. Hopefully you understand that now. Keep up the good work. Always dig deeper for a more profound understanding. There are specific situations that call for some deviation from accepted norms. The context is important.

That's what you get when you hire @wxmeddler!

I’ve had my solar for about 12 years. Small system, only 18 panels. Bought the system outright, no leasing….No complaints at all. There are little issues here and there, but nothing major. I expected to see some decline in production as the panels have aged, but I honestly haven’t seen anything. Just had my second highest June production in their 12th year.

I like the pink lines for 110+. Color gradient gets tough at that point.

Sad to report that I’ve hit 100° on the home weather station
