  2. No! A major gulf of alaska low is getting a bad rap repeated into the ground by everyone because a handful of Strong Nino analogs were like that. ENSO does not significantly stretch wavelengths. What you are actually seeing there is a skewed sample, and that's because it's a small sample! I've plotted the Winter pattern 100 times, not 5, and the mean is average temps from DC to NYC, below average in Richmond. With -AO/NAO it's a solidly below average temp pattern.. as long as the -H5 doesn't extend into Alaska. A +EPO is a much different story.
  3. We had one around the same time last year. They've happened in October in before. I use 9/30 as the "starting date" for potential Stratosphere warming/coolings. I think there are 10 somewhat significant + events in October since 1948.

  5. 34° with heavy frost this morning in the Valley. It's going to be a beautiful day for the Bluegrass Festival!
  6. El Nino's favor Stratosphere warmings, so I think given 100 examples the El Nino tendency is -nao, -ao. Strong -QBO in 09-10 really pushed that tendency further. West-based Nino/Strong -QBO.. yeah give me that Winter
  7. Low of 36.1. A bit more frost than on previous nights.

  9. Of the 3 Super Nino's that were total fail, 72-73, 97-98, 23-24.. 2/3 were -PNA I think that's how we most likely fail, not with a raging low pressure in the mid-latitudes (GOA)
  10. For sure…almost a 10 degree difference from me(29 for the low)to you. Still only 36 now. Very interesting. Normal low for 10/24 at BDL is 40…so you were still below that number.
  11. 38.2 was the low. Man what a microclimate
  12. 34 was the low here this morning on top of the hill. Walpack bottomed out at 22. High Point got down to 32. Low lying / valley locations the clear winners this morning on overnight mins. Perfect conditions for radiational cooling overnight. Quiet weather continues for the coming week with still no rainfall for the next 7 days at least.
  13. Low of 32 with a lot of frost
  14. Low 29.2 at my elevation Low 24.9F my nephew's house 1/2 mile away and 250 feet lower Living at 1100 feet I was always curious what the temperature was at the bottom of my hill. My nephew just bought a house 1/2 mile away at the bast of the hill. I bought him a weather station and made sure it was accurately reading temperature before I set it up. I ran it next to my Davis up here before installing it. So it seems most mornings it runs about 5F colder on calm mornings. It's fun to see the difference. Of course it quickly catches up during the days. This will also be interesting in the cold season.
  15. 34.0 in Muttontown & 37.1 in Syosset this morning.
  16. Mark me up on the big board for the first hard freeze, low of 28 here.
  17. Low of 40.3 but this is the first morning there has been frost on the rooftops in the lower areas of the neighborhood.
  18. Mins. Congrats HIE. Looks like SLK ASOS croaked yesterday morning.
  19. According to the models. No rain for the next two weeks.
  20. Today
