Euro and GFS are worlds apart past D8-9 but unfortunately the GEFS doesn't seem to support the GFS idea of reloading the PNA ridge. I must not understand the PNA domain because the forecast for the next week on the teleconnections site shows it as neutral despite the huge ridge developing this weekend/early next week.

That rule got changed a few years ago (2018 I want to say?) but it's not retroactive. So the T snow in July stays.

Feb 5-6 for sure at least in the past 25 years. As I type that, I realize that's since 2000 and now I feel very old. Anyway, Feb 5-6 was the cake and Feb 9-10 on top was just extra icing. PDII of 2003 is #2. Wasn't on the east coast for '96 or '93 unfortunately.

I'm starting to thing that this snow system depends a lot on timing. If it happens at say 7PM then temps will likely be too warm except for the upslope areas (around 40+), but if it happens at say 10PM then temps are more like 35... much more conducive for snow

I was just out in the garden and picked some peppers and pole lima beans. Still producing because we haven't had a freeze here yet. It's gonna be a close call tomorrow night. If not tomorrow night, the garden will definitely come to end end with the cold shot early next week. We'll be going below freezing Monday night.

This. Our non-elevation snow rates/accumulation are second to the LES belts, and I wouldn’t trade that for a 5-10” Midwest blizzard with 70mph winds, even though I love wind. But high end to me is the HECS territory. We had a great stretch last decade, but region wide historic has happened less than a handful of times?

Wow! By a good margin today’s run has the weakest SPV and highest % of members with a major very early season SSW in late Nov or early Dec: would likely be the earliest major SSW since Nov of 1968! Before this, the weakest SPV was on this run from 2 days ago:

I would LOVE to experience a Great Plains blizzard some day. That has to be some wild stuff...that and a major LES event.

Ya, their blizzards in the Midwest are 3-5” with 60-70 mph winds. I’ll take our 18-24” ones with 35-50 mph winds any day. We do better than the mid west most times. Inter mountain west is a different animal.

He doesn’t know what he is talking about either. All the CONFIRMED torch talk last week by him…and we haven’t seen it. Although that is very typical.

Compared to the South, sure we do winter well but just speaking in terms of an average winter, we are nothing special versus the interior West, northern Plains, upper-Midwest. Outside of higher elevations and northern New England (because of latitude) our average winter isn't wild...what around 30" towards the coast (probably even a bit less) and upwards of 35-50" across the interior? What is the most common snow storm for the region...3-6" 4-8"? That's probably not much different than these other areas and those other areas...get true blizzards. There's no doubt winter storms trump other weather phenomena here, but they are still relatively meh compared to other regions of the country. But this is just looking at severity of weather elements. If we want to talk societal impact that's a different argument.

Again, we do winter pretty well…but we’ve been in a slump. But that will change. We had high end event, after high end event for quite a long time in the winter for a long stretch…we were due for a big slump. And we’ve had it. So now I think we’ll start to recover.

Somebody needs to introduce this dude to the concept of the paragraph.
