I have a few mayapples! I have an area under some trees that I’m mostly leaving alone and intermittently planting some shade and dry soil tolerant natives. After 3-4 years, my Christmas ferns have started to spread. Dwarf crested iris has really spread and some asters have also spread into the shade a bit. There’s a lot of tree saplings and one sweetgum that volunteered is now like 6-7 feet tall. All that to say it can happen quicker than you might think if you don’t mow. I pull out any invasives that try to grow and any poison ivy (native but not welcome in my yard!).

2026-2027 Strong El Nino
MarcmmKU replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
I do think uber strong ninos tend to me more negative for us than for you. Midwest is pretty resistant to terrible snow years. Not the case on the coast, even interior NE.- 1,190 replies

My kid's T-Ball Opening Day is tomorrow at 9:30 AM. Current forecast in Curwensville is 38°F at 9:30 AM. I played baseball in snow. I was not four-years-old. This pattern needs to change. -
Please post May ‘26 obs from your area as well as current wx events/obs for other areas. Hope all or at least most areas of the SE get good rains this month to help with the ongoing drought. The two big SE GA fires are now ~40% contained thanks to help from recent rains down there. My area has had some showers this morning, which includes some isolated small heavier ones. The main show (widespread 1”+) for here as well as for the fire areas is tonight through tomorrow. Please pin @buckeyefan1TIA

Amazing how some have IMBY vision only.

Recent rainfall and snowfall for you guys in Colorado. NWS snowfall analysis says it snowed above 6000-7000ft. The Rocky Mountain national park views have some snow visible above 11000ft today. Frisco/Breckenridge had some snow in town.

I've been very pleasantly surprised that some mayapple seeds I planted randomly under some trees in the back of my yard actually grew. Trying to turn my 1/4 acre (the back of it) into the woods, might take 30 years though

Gorgeous day especially by comparison of the majority recently.

The recent CPC says there is about a 20% chance of a super El Nino for the winter (Nov-Jan). It's at the end of their forecast graphics. So how's a super El Nino for getting rid of the drought? Pretty good chance to have large rainfall in the southern USA. Things have not gone well for the West and Southeast, two huge parts our country.

Really really hope it doesn’t rain Wednesday - I have a group of 600 people doing a walking tour. -
If you’re in the sun it’s a +10 real feel. T-shirt and jeans perfect in the sun.

Builders scrape vast quantities of topsoil and then sell it for profit. It's a total scam.

oh I agree with you-I just remember other years with days and days of overcast and onshore flow. This one's a bit more tolerable.
