It is unreal how hard it is snowing and how big the flakes are.

Yea the flakes were huge earlier... i'm getting smaller flakes currently but there are a ton in this band so its creating some rather low visibilities. Looks like the band decided to go stationary over Buncombe county, so there might be some more accumulation from this event yet.

Will go out and measure in a bit.

Moderate Snow

Temp: 32.4 degrees

Humidity: 98%

.. And this is just the precursor to a bigger storm. By next Friday, Mt. Mitchell could have 4+ feet on the ground.(just a guess on my part, but reasonable I think)

Still coming down good here.

How much accumulation do you currently have? Looking at the radar it looks like you have a decent train of moisture over Asheville.

I have about 2 and a 1/4 so far, still snowing, big flakes. I might get 3 inches out of this.

So, that's about an 1 and a 1/4 in less than 2 hours. So, a little over a 1/2 inch per hour. But, I have lulls and heavy bursts, wash, rinse, repeat.

... And yet again, I'm in a big time snow shower. If this had maintained, I could have really piled it up.

Boy we are getting hit pretty hard right now... temperatures are now below freezing and most of the roads are covered in snow... not a great situation for drivers out there tonight.

Moderate to Heavy Snow

Temp: 31.5 degrees

Humidity: 96%

Ugh, i'm debating on delaying my departure to UNCA now =/.

4 inches here now. Would have been about an inch more had the temp not went above freezing for several hours during the day today. Quite a bit of melting occurred. A moderate band moving thru now. Looks to be some more upstream, so may wind up with a couple more inches before said and done.

Once again, more than any model predicted.

So, as of now, you've had 62" of snow this year. Incredible. How much do you usually get?

Average is about 80" but last year 113". But my obs are not typical. I live at over 4k on a northwest facing slope, 6 miles from the TN boarder, on a piece of property that my Granddaddy bought back in the 1940's. A mile from here might have a 25" yearly average.

Anywho, my bedtime measurement is at 9 inches with light snow. Everybody relax, next week is gonna be epic. Enjoy the ride!!!!

I'll trade you 5 acres N of Chapel Hill! Haha

Man, that property must be a treasure. Great location!

I assume it is gorgeous scenery there as well as extremely snowy.
