With the warmest part of the month behind us, all stations are above normal for September so far. NJ and Eastern PA have been the warm spots this month. We can see the artificial cooling at NYC due to the trees too close to the sensor.

September 1st-20th temperature departures

MPO…..+2.7°

PHL……+4.3°

SMQ…..+2.3°

NBW…..+3.5°

EWR…..+2.2°

NYC……+0.6°

LGA…….+1.6°

JFK…….+2.3°

HPN……+1.6°

BDR…..+0.5°

ISP…….+1.5°

What caused the artificial cooling at BDR?

So much for doom and gloom, it’s beautiful outside.

Yep enough of the rain nonsense. I only want it to rain a couple of times a month.

Mid/late morning into early mid-afternoon may see some sun. Clouds should return afterward.

It's a little blip as later in the week the sun will return.

0.80" here. Not bad. Good drink for the vegetable garden.

Meh you need to get rid of that water pit. Anything that needs that much water shouldn't be grown here. Grow stuff that isn't so water greedy. You'll need to next year since we're going to have a nice dry hot summer. Unless you want to start watering,  which I prefer over rainfall since you can control exactly where it goes.

It does appear that there is somewhat more dry air around than I had thought yesterday. So, today and even tomorrow could have some periods of sunshine with a diminished risk of showers. An offshore storm will need to be watched closely toward the end of the week.

Nice to see the sun today!

Nice that you included MPO, I think my sensors are properly situated but even so I notice a small variance between them. About +/- 2 degrees. I usually just take the average between them. I'm usually around MPO temperature sometimes a degree or two higher or lower. At night the variation can be a bit more, sometimes 3 or 4 degrees, usually higher. Maybe my vegetation is causing that?

Tomorrow and Wednesday will be variably cloudy days. A few locations could see a shower, but dry weather should be predominant. Highs should reach the lower and middle 60s.

Some rain and showers are possible Thursday and Friday. The extent of the precipitation will depend on the track of a developing storm. For now, the system looks to pass far enough from the region to produce lighter to perhaps moderate amounts of precipitation. Uncertainty exists. Temperatures will remain unseasonably cool throughout the week with highs mainly in the lower and middle 60s.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +4.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +3.0°C for the week centered around September 16. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +4.33°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +2.73°C. Both ENSO regions have tied their all-time warmest anomalies. The ongoing strong El Niño, will continue to strengthen through the mid-fall.

The SOI was -23.00 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +1.435 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 65% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal September (1991-2020 normal). September will likely finish with a mean temperature near 68.5° (0.7° below normal).

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.5° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
