Fog bank over the Lake with a chilly breeze across town. TBH, it has been a few yrs since I can remember so much fog, and chilly air at the 4th of July. Testament to the cooler, drier wx in May n June up here. June ended avg only because of hvy rains at the end of the month. It's those warmer rains that really help raise the water temp. It happens faster than just a warm Sun. Just like in winter, air temps alone don't just cool off the water, but the cold rain/snowfall mixing in the surface waters which includes LER/S precip.

Early July heat wave misses us to the east, and now it’s looking as though the mid-July death ridge will miss us to the west. Go figure. It’ll probably still be slightly above average, but no 100s any time soon.

0.10" of rain from shwrs/stms that blossomed along the ridges, and moved overhead during the evening. Isolated chances today with a breezy Lake wind keeping temps rather cool. They shoot off the fireworks down at Agate Bay where the ore docks are, and those that watch them there will need a jacket/sweater/hoodie. I can see them from my home if I want to watch. Not really into the fireworks thing anymore.

As expected. 100s are very hard to come for most of us without the perfect conditions.

In most scenarios you really need drought-like conditions to hit that century mark.

Yeah just about ever 100 degree day that I can remember here came during either short term or long term dry conditions.  Only exception was the 1995 heat wave which was on another level.

Yup. It doesn't mean its not hot out (a shame we have to preface that everytime so certain people dont freak:rolleyes:), its just recognizing climo.

Since records began in 1874, Detroit has hit 100+ the following years:

1878
1887
1911
1918
1930
1931
1933
1934
1936
1939
1941
1946
1952
1953
1955
1977
1988
1995
2011
2012

Thats it. It was an incredible stretch from 1930-1955, when 11 of the 26 years hit 100+. Only 9 years of the remaining 127 years did so.
