80 Degrees to Ripping Snow: March 12th

This is true! The highest temperature confirmed the day prior to at least 0.1" of snow at DCA was 78F on 3/18/1934. The next day (3/19/1934), DCA measured 0.1". This was at the location prior to the new location of DCA now. 

Another tidbit that likely has been broken was the warmest temperature on the same day at least 0.1" was recorded. The previous record was 67F on 11/11/1995 before a strong cold front came through allowing for 0.2" of snow to accumulate later that day. DCA at the 08z ob (1:52AM), the temperature was 77F which would obliterate the old record by 10 degrees. This was quite the event.

1.5” here although it snowed at rate of 1.5”ph for two hours.  Radiance was really well minimized but still  2-3 degrees too mild.  I think Richmond hit 89 yesterday and at same time this afternoon it was 33 and heavy snow

Yes there have gotta be a lot of records like that.  My temp spiked to 75 by 4am and 1pm 9 hours later Daytime it’s 33!and heavy snow. Many of those sort of things likely were exceeded by yesterday to today .

This event raised my grade for this winter from a C to a B. Had the late Feb event worked out, it would've been a B+/A.

How did BWI only have a T? Did they measure after it melted? Did they measure on the tarmac?

Looks like BWI changed it to an M, meaning they’re acknowledging that the data is missing for that day.

I hope they figure something out eventually. I think they should split the difference between the nearest 1.0 and 1.4 and go with 1.2”.

Sure it won’t be perfect but at the most they’ll be off by a few tenths. Better than going down in history as a false zero.

They did the M thing for several weeks regarding the back to back days in early February with dustings. Then said “F it” and went with a T both days

Great news! It appears that BWI will be going with 1” for this event. I do think the airport may have gotten a few tenths more but this is good enough IMO.

I don’t know if any LWX mets who are in charge of these records read this board (MillvilleWx maybe?), but I do appreciate them following through what I recommended and so I have to give them credit where it’s due.

The reason why I cared so much is because this was an extraordinary event and I want the official record to reflect how it unfolded - from a midnight high of 76 to accumulating snow in the same day.

I work at WPC, so I don't have any internal holdings with LWX. I do know multiple mets at the office though!

I was in Indiana all week.  But I can report exactly nothing here in stephens city again.  At least we picked up .36" rain on Thursday and got a decent storm and .24" rain Wednesday.  

Even in mid-march the eastern crew still gets snow while we cannot.
