wxmeddler
I have a small bone to pick with LWX: Quote A strong low pressure system located offshore paired with arctic high pressure moving in from Canada that yields a very tight pressure gradient across the area. A strengthening LLJ at 850-925mb that crosses the area Saturday morning will support the mixing of stronger winds down to the surface. PGF driven CAA does not equal an LLJ! LLJ's are either nocturnal boundary layer decoupling driven events or cyclogenesis driven ahead of a cold front. /steps off ant hill

Was just looking at that. GOES GLM is showing a few strikes with the leading edge of the polar front. Wouldn't be surprised if it's picking off antennas or turbines.

Most of the lift and buoyancy is embedded in the -10 to -20C layer, so seems possible.

I mean that the lightning is picking off (ie. hitting) antennas or turbines, as is common in winter time events. Like the lightning has a choice in what it hits. . I have absolutely no doubt that lightning is actually occurring.

Yeah, looking closer -- there's some nice mid-level DPVA superimposed over that surface front with the left exit region of that jet streak nosing in aloft. Good spot for something to happen. Hope it makes it down to at least our northwestern folks. Been a while since we've had a good arctic front driven snow squall.

Prob because we are unlikely to see anything but cold wind... which we do really well here. But I'm with you it is fascinating. You think there's any chance we see a squall from the frontal passage E of the BR?

Weenies gonna weenie - a lot are just here for the snow. Agree this is pretty rare for our area, we got about an inch of fresh powder on top of the snowcrete - super cold temps - deep winter around here, plus some interesting dynamics to watch tonight. Really can't ask for better. It will be like Antarctica for a few hours.
caviman2201
Definitely going to be watching the Wisp cams (https://www.wispresort.com/mountain-report-cams/) as that squall moves in from the NW... should be pretty epic This is also one I like to watch up in the DCL area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cfGy_FAYhk
