Very light snow, maybe a generous dusting @ 3mi east of RDU. 16.9 degrees. I tell myself after every disappointing winter “storm” that I’m gonna quit being hopeful but I always get suckered back in…this might actually be the straw that breaks the camel’s back tho.

Family in western Pitt and Greene Counties reporting at probably 6”+.  I am happy for them but not gonna lie, green with envy.

6 inches easy they will get another 6 before it over if these upcoming bands are anything like we have seen so far. I think you guys will still get lucky the negative tilt is pushing the western edge of the coastal precip closer and if you get under it your gonna be surprised how fast it piles up ratios are insane.

You sure about that ron? All I have is a sleet mound in the driveway from last week's dry slot! Rotfl

Radar is doing nothing. Hasn't budged east in 4 hours.

not true. it's coming from the east.  Snowing moderately in east Raleigh/east wake county right now. Look at the weather channel radar.  It's the most accurate for this storm

I hope so for yalls sake it works out, even under no returns its dumping snow you get under and dark greens or yellows and its the hardest snow I have seen in literally decades.

I'm pulling for Raleigh! I lived there for a decade in the 90s and 2000s before moving to NYC. Kind of looks like the bands of snow from the developing coastal and bands to the west are about to merge over Raleigh. That would give Raleigh a shot at something decent.

So Coastal

Not ULL?

Yes the ULL has pretty much died out or close to it.  The coastal Low is taking over.  Those heavy bands from the east could lead to some surprising accumulations.  the triangle aint dead yet!

My man. Relax. The precip is rotating in from E NE.  That blank white circle will get filled in.  Wake county is good now.  You should see snow in about 15 mins if you havn't already.

I have been relaxing all day. But thanks for the encouragement...I need it!

The 500, 700, 850, 925 and surface lows are aligned now from nwSC to off the SC coast and the slope (imagine this to be a very large F1 tornado tilted to west at highest point) is slowly decreasing as each level catches up to the one closer to the surface. Surface banding is tending to be squeezed together by this process as the further west the snow, the more connected it is to upper level lows. This should slowly fill in that long-lived dry slot near Raleigh and allow them to join the party (a bit late so totals will be 4-7").

This storm will continue to rip for 6-9 more hours before the 500 mb low drifts out to sea. Some places could end up with 18-24 inch totals as heavier bands will develop now that stronger winds are blowing in from the ocean.

Some gusts to 50 or 60 mph likely in exposed coastal areas this evening into the overnight. Severe blowing and drifting of snow will occur. Wind chill values of 5-10 F or lower, seldom if ever observed before in coastal NC are possible. Further inland it won't get that windy but gusts to 35 mph will be widespread, blowing and drifting snow will strand some travelers, and wind chills will drop to near or below zero F.

Great storm.  15 miles northeast of Charlotte.  Still moderate snow coming down.  14 3/4"

You scored big, probably pushing 10-11 inches on the lake here and still coming down  but not that. You win for the Charlotte area

That eastern edge will not make it all the way across wake. It is in eastern wake and not progressing any further.

.

incorrect. stop spreading missinformation.  precip is linking from both sides as the ULL dies out and the coastal low cranks
