LVLion77
It’s funny watching the various weather forecasting services gradually backing off the extreme snow forecasts. The reality is that when you have low pressure passing this far to the north without the coastal becoming dominant at about VA Beach, doesn’t matter how solid the cold air mass is in place - mixing will race north. It’s been that way forever. I think it gets even into the southern Poconos at this point just looking at the situation this morning.

CoolHandMike
Didn't we have something similar in 2016? NWS called for a foot of snow and we got like 4" of sleet out near Coatesville. My front yard was a glacier for like a month.

There’s been several sleet ruiners in the last ten years. Feb 2021 would have been an all timer if we didn’t sleet half the storm. We ended up with a foot then or slightly over I think but 2” of that was sleet.

I noticed earlier this year that there wasn't much available, wonder why that is. We have a bag of that pet-friendly stuff (the kind that looks like tiny shards of glass) and a bunch of leftover kitty litter from when we had cats several years ago. That'll have to do. I remember some sleet storm since I moved to my current location, which was 2016 (but after any winter weather, so something 2017+). I know the threads are here for that. 2017 - 2019 (notably 2017 - 2018) were significant "recent" years.

The mayor said yesterday they had loads of salt, etc What I heard on the radio yesterday was that the city hadn't expected the November snow so they cut into their stocks for that, and then used up some for the last 2-day storm. But they said they had enough for this upcoming storm. I think the bigger issue was the salt for consumers (e.g., ice melt), which has disappeared out of the stores, and from some posts I saw on Nextdoor, some smaller hardware stores were price gouging what they had.

That’s the storm I’m kinda thinking this storm will be like. Had a huge front end thump with that one too got a foot, and then it sleeted for like 3-4 hours after that and ruined our chances of 18+. But that was a huge front end thump as well.

bigtenfan
Does anyone know what source Apple Weather uses? They have not backed down even with the Mesoscale computer runs.

And I did notice it was adding some inches for a few hours more - at least to places well west of us. 9 minutes ago, bigtenfan said: Does anyone know what source Apple Weather uses? Apple has this for their description of the app and sources (seems like they claim to use a lot of foreign sources although those might be tweaked for use for people who live in those countries) - https://support.apple.com/en-us/105038 One of my sisters and a niece have been using that app and sending screenshots of the snow forecast calamity!
