AppalachianWedge
Feels like not so much the calm before the storm but the deep breath before the storm because I’m old enough to remember 2002 pretty well and it sucked. And I think that’s the best analog here. I also think some posters here have not emotionally recovered from the rug pull this week lolI think it's because no one here cares about ice.Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
neatlburbwthrguy
HRRR looks to bring a little snow to extreme north ga mountains with initial band of precip if it can make it through the dry air.

lookingnorth
I am in Norman, OK, and I will say that a lot of the models were showing sleet for me at this time frame, but we are getting snow currently. It's no guarantee that the warm nose will be less intense than modeled in the Southeast, but just a data point to consider. 24
Buddy1987
NAM early on in the run has the HP slightly stronger out in the Midwest. See if it helps with temps as we go here and keeps the stones around longer.

PackGrad05
HRRR is very cold for central NC and shows a long duration freezing rain event.
Buddy1987
Looks like the NAM finally is starting to latch onto the idea of a more significant qpf producer as hr 19 has a good chunk filled over the state of TX. Beginning portion of the precip our way has the “finger” of snow pointed directly at the NC mountain empire. Around 00z sleet and freezing rain mix spilling over now into NC. Snow breaking out 81 corridor up into VA.

Anyone ‘rooting’ for ice/fz rain hasn’t been through what’s about to come to us. Please check on your neighbors and the elderly. This is serious ‘shit’ that we are getting ready to experience. Buddy1987
@BornAgain13HR 36 literally might have us giggle as to how hard the sleet will be coming down outside. The band verbatim the NAM has roll thru is like a damn summer time thunderstorm.
Snow dog
My optimistic side says we stay sleet longer than forecasted. Local Mets saying that’s what we need to pray for. Even an hour or 2 longer of sleet could make a big difference in what ultimately happens here in the upstate….

Either that or it’s sleet/less qpf than the models are showing.

Yeah- Helene ended up costing me just over $13k in tree work and landscaping on my property. Right now I’m most worried about being cold when the inevitable happens and power is lost. I do have a generator, but worry about folks that dont. Forecasted lows Monday night here are around 5. That’s concerning……

RockyKnob
WNC doesn’t have the fragile pines that are in ENC, so they have that going for them. Also, any places with altitude will either be sleet or rain. It’s tough to get prolonged freezing rain there. The escarpment will have freezing rain, but without the pines to collapse everywhere, it hopefully will not be so bad.

NorthHillsWx
NAM is honestly a nuisance event in Raleigh. 0.30” of mixed QPF then the rest is plain old rain. WTF are we getting an ice storm or insignificant slop?
