Feels like not so much the calm before the storm but the deep breath before the storm because I’m old enough to remember 2002 pretty well and it sucked. And I think that’s the best analog here. I also think some posters here have not emotionally recovered from the rug pull this week lol
I think it's because no one here cares about ice.

I am in Norman, OK, and I will say that a lot of the models were showing sleet for me at this time frame, but we are getting snow currently. It's no guarantee that the warm nose will be less intense than modeled in the Southeast, but just a data point to consider.

Looks like the NAM finally is starting to latch onto the idea of a more significant qpf producer as hr 19 has a good chunk filled over the state of TX. Beginning portion of the precip our way has the “finger” of snow pointed directly at the NC mountain empire.

Around 00z sleet and freezing rain mix spilling over now into NC. Snow breaking out 81 corridor up into VA.

They will soon. Hope everyone is ready.

I think I can speak for the upstate SC folks… we are truly dreading this storm.  Anyone ‘rooting’ for ice/fz rain hasn’t been through what’s about to come to us.  Please check on your neighbors and the elderly. This is serious ‘shit’ that we are getting ready to experience.  I pray that everyone stays safe & warm…

I live in Greenville. The only thing I can hope is that Helene brought down enough trees so maybe it won’t be as bad as it could be. Either that or it’s sleet/less qpf than the models are showing.

Yeah- Helene ended up costing me just over $13k in tree work and landscaping on my property.  Right now I’m most worried about being cold when the inevitable happens and power is lost. I do have a generator, but worry about folks that dont. Forecasted lows Monday night here are around 5.  That’s concerning……

WNC doesn’t have the fragile pines that are in ENC, so they have that going for them. Also, any places with altitude will either be sleet or rain. It’s tough to get prolonged freezing rain there. The escarpment will have freezing rain, but without the pines to collapse everywhere, it hopefully will not be so bad.

That is exactly what is concerning me. Its actaully giving me a good bit of anxiety because this could be really rough from that point of view.
