Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs

Recommended Posts

Despite pretty high winds, the most impactful weather has shifted over to the snow bands that set up late this evening/early this morning in combo with the winds of course.

Opted for a late night snow chase on a band that set up in northern Blair/NW Huntingdon a couple hours ago and it ended up being worth it. Some folks probably saw their biggest snowfall of the season to date under it. 2-4” was common on the I-99 corridor roughly between Bellwood-Tyrone, carrying over into Huntingdon County. Very impressive for a LES band being off the Laurel’s.

I-99 between Tipton (Exit 45) and Tyrone (48)

This band missed here by about 6 miles or so, there’s only about a half inch of wind blown snow here at the house.

Winds have been howling much of the night and will continue this morning before slowly subsiding later today. The sun returns today but we stay with well below normal temperatures for at least the next week with temperatures remaining below freezing till at least Saturday. We only warm slightly to just above freezing this weekend into early next week. There is a chance of a little snow later New Years Eve into New Years Day. If we do see some snow amounts should be light.

It has been more relentless than most other wind storms. Peaks were higher last week but this is constant long-lasting 40-55mph gusts that repeat every minute or two.

Yes I'd like to do some work outside with the brush cutter. Now that the sleet is gone would be a great time to do it. Even if it's around 30. But factor in that wind...no thanks.

MU continues to make very...interesting posts.

Needless to say, he's not enthusiastic over the advertised pattern in January. Meaning, he isn't buying it.

He needs to take a break and let one of the students do the posting.

I have actually stopped reading his (or MUs) twitter posts.

.

I don’t need a Met to tell me the odds of a big snowstorm are low. Of course they are. It’s relatively rare to get a double digit snowfall around here. Seems like he’s simply playing the percentages and then gloating about it.

“Here's a BIG reason to be skeptical of a monster snowstorm in the mid-Atlantic States through mid-Jan…” -MU

Incredibly bold call to predict no “monster” snowstorms in the next two to three weeks.

Saw that, and still ranting about the performance of the models.  I also saw he openly admitted to preferring warm weather and said he doesn't root for big snowstorms.  Alrighty then.

quite frankly dont give a rats ass what he wishes for and yeah, he's wordsmithing his warm bias into it as shared above.  Just call it like you see it, and keep opinions to self.  IF he wasnt a pro, and just a weenie like most of us, and wants to come in here w/ his warm bias, thats fine, but public sector weighs heavily on his "opines".

We live in an information era, and peeps rely far too much on other peeps "opines", and can get caught off guard.

Out in woods most of the day.  Face looks just a tad windburnt.  Stopped to see my mom and she all but freaked and said, honey your blood pressure must be terrible.  lol

To provide the MU guy a tiny defense,

James Spann posted the 8-14 day outlook about an hour ago and it shows warmth over just about the entire CONUS while referencing just a couple of days ago it showed "extreme cold."

So I wonder if more mets are going through it.

and thats fine, but when you admit you have a bias, its hard to not view w/ a tad of skepticism (for those of us who have a modicum of weather knowledge, but to the peeps that just read, and go off thinking whatever is posted is happening, that can be trouble.

I'd just say its up in the air.....^_^
