I have lots of opinions about LV but I don't fault her. She skied just fine a few days earlier. Her line was too high, she got caught in the gate, got twisted around and blown up. She had plenty of medical advice & care. They need to get medical clearance but there is definitely a tension there between medical staff and skiers. I've skied a bunch of these WC and Olympic DH courses- making many, many turns - they are all insane when you consider the skiers are basically straight lining.

I have no problem with her decision. It doesn’t appear the ACL thing caused her crash. She caught a gate wrong.  She earned that spot.
I am not wired like her at all so I can’t comprehend it.  Takes guts and some hubris I suppose.

im just happy to make it down the trails. I finally got my first turns in last night. Been battling a nagging knee things since July.  Actually feels pretty good today.

The Beast pass getting better by the year

See what they do next year. Burke and Smuggs ownership is a bit different than Beast and Catamount. Bousquet is also in the Berkshire summit pass mix and they aren’t owned by either. Could see a nice partner program or some tiered options with full access at a premium.

I agree. She earned her spot on the team and was skiing well in the practice runs. Sucks that she caught that gate.

Skied at Sugarbush on Thursday. It was very good. At Killington yesterday and found similar conditions. Stuck to groomers but peeking into woods coverage looked excellent. On the lifts, met multiple people from Midwest who had pivoted from western resorts to the east because of the lack of snow in the west. It should be a big week with vacations.

Mount Snow was excellent yesterday! It looked and felt busy but most lifts were ski on. They got about 8” of new snow the previous couple days and it really helped conditions. Natural snow trails and woods skied very well. I managed a nice loop around the hill hitting both on map and off spots from all lifts until I had to jet to go get my youngest at school. Great day overall!

I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t really been able to go anywhere else besides what I can access around here but I will say it’s been excellent. Hope we can get another storm or two in February and avoid any big warmups and or rain.

Over 8 feet of snow in Tahoe:

I arrive next Saturday for a week. It is going to rain this coming week up to the ridges...crazy. After the storms, they are at 105% of snow.

Need to make a decision whether to pivot to Lake Louise and Revelstoke or stay with original plan Schweitzer (ID) and Red Mountain. Schweitzer has only gotten 130" this season but is reporting the resort is nearly 100% open for first time this season. I'm strongly leaning towards Lake Louise and Revelstoke.

The parking lot at Great Brook (Carlisle MA) has been full everyday. Between Olympics, school vacation and good snow, it's great to see people out enjoying winter sports.

Magic was excellent yesterday. I was helping judge a freeride comp so we got some access to closed trails with untouched powder. Felt like a treat on one of their busiest days. They received around 8” of dense but not overly sticky snow overnight, it really helped cover up the abundance of rocks they have on that hill. Everything skied very smooth.
They were sold out and the parking lots were full. Lines were pretty long in the am but when I went out solo in the afternoon it was ski on. They have been having one of their best Feb vacation weeks ever which is great for their long term sustainability. 839035f5548717fa273ae977f51d66c3.jpg

What a great mountain when the conditions are right! I’m happy to see they are doing well and pissed they aren’t gonna open tomorrow.

Nice.  I was there too, also on Icelantics ;), first tracks on Goniff and Master Magician, and killer runs down red and green lines.  Didn't hang out long enough to get the opening of black magic after the comp.  But yeah it was awesome.
