Probably the same poster who canceled winter a week ago

This year definitely bucks the trend of increasing warmth between Christmas and New Years. It's one of our fastest warming times of the year in these parts.

Still, with NYC receiving 7-8+ this month, that should bode well for the rest of winter in a La Nina

Frequent light to moderate snowfalls reminds me of when I was a kid.  It's not terrible if the warmups aren't too much.

One of my earliest memories, which may have been exaggerated by the years, was of it seeming like every morning waking up to a new snowfall.  Mid to late 60s, maybe  early 70s it would have been, probably more than 1 winter.  Don't care whether that was quite the reality, I'm hanging on to that memory... and 1978.

Counterpoint: People who hate cold can dress warmer, including indoors. People heat intolerant can’t strip to their birthday suit … legally.

When in winter dress appropriately if you run cold, I can’t stand people complaining indoors during the winter that the heat isn’t high enough - you have ways to mitigate that I do not in the reverse.

The posts about how much oil has been consumed in the past month reminds me of another story about my father-in-law, the guy who thought my snowboard was a great place to dump scrap food for all the animals outside but I digress. He tells me once “I went from Williamsport to here on a quarter tank of gas. Isn’t that good?!”
“I don’t know, maybe. How big is your tank and how many miles was it?” I replied.
Looking at me kinda complexed he says, “I’m not sure of the gas tank size but it was a quarter of a tank! That’s good!”
After a bit of a blank stare from me all I could muster out then was “OK, that’s great. What do you want to watch on tv?"

Good morning Rob. I would have enjoyed the company of your father in law. ….. “preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you” ….. as always ….

Back in the days when you could get a snowstorm over here, Queens had a solid 12" blizzard on this in 2018, and woke up to a solid 7-10" powdery snowstorm on this day in 2014, with single digit temperatures after the storm.

He's an interesting character, we enjoy our time together. He's never used a computer, any type of cell phone, never been on the internet, never used an ATM, doesn't use the microwave.

And you say he got there from Williamsport on just a quarter bale of hay?

Except for my daughters and late wife dragging me into the 21st century, there may have been little difference between us. I’ll think of him as a ‘rugged individualist’ a persona that a certain newly elected NYC office holder seems to have a disdain for. As always ….
