OrdIowPitMsp Posted yesterday at 11:48 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:48 AM Very smoky rain this morning. AQI over 200, visibility under 3 miles. The smell of burnt boreal forest in the air.
Torchageddon Posted yesterday at 12:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:00 PM The most smoky day yet, the sky is entirely blotted out with the modest orange ball. Now instead of streaks of overcast we have this dreaded blight!

According to the models we should be in southwest flow at 500 with this thunderstorm setup ahead of the incoming cold front.

Subsidence behind the front is bringing the smoke to ground level. The upper flow pattern had been out of the NW to my understanding. It’s a pretty thin band of surface level smoke. Western and Central Minnesota are already seeing improvements.
Torchageddon
Already 26C/79F - I'm thinking I get to 30 and over-perform. Low will be 21-22C overnight!

Chinook
two possible QLCS tornadoes near Moline, IL edit: new PDS warning extended through the Quad Cities Quote * Until 745 PM CDT. * At 706 PM CDT, a possible large and extremely dangerous tornado was located over Taylor Ridge, or near Rock Island, moving northeast at 50 mph. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW! HAZARD...Damaging tornado. SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation
CheeselandSkies
Ugh. Not a fan of this type of warning. "Possible large and extremely dangerous..." "Radar indicated rotation" It's either radar (TDS) or spotter confirmed as being "large and extremely dangerous," or you don't use the PDS designation.
cyclone77
Was tornado warned here but weak rotation passed northwest of here on a weakening trend. Did get a nice period of 50mph winds and near zero visibility in absolute car wash style deluge. Up to 0.85" for the day but guessing a good amount of rain blew across the rain funnel during the storm. EDIT: Also, lol at SPC bumping us out of the slight after days of being in it, only to add it back late in the day. EDIT2: Finished with 1.20". 1
hawkeye_wx
This system was a dud for a large swath of sw through ne Iowa, where not much rain fell.... following days of models dropping 1+" across most of the state. I was lucky to get 0.53", with only a couple very low rumbles. Models are showing very little rain, again, for the next week+.
TheClimateChanger
We will have to keep a close eye on this. The Canadian smoke model seems to want to create a smokepocalypse at the end of its run with dense surface smoke spanning pretty much all of southern Canada and northern Michigan by Friday morning. Mogget
Just over an inch of much-appreciated rain here. Locations less than ten miles south picked up nearly 1.8” from a SW to NE oriented line, so location mattered. Nevertheless, grass and garden will proper. cyclone77
Another 0.60" overnight brings the total up to 1.80". Still quite a few people in the IL portion of the QC without power early this morning.
Brian D
A nice early June day on tap with highs in the upper 70's. Skies have mellowed out with the smoke. Just a light veil. Sunrise n set have had a reddish orange sun. Still in need of precip. Early week rains were a dud here with maybe a tenth in the bucket.
