Huh. Unless I was reading it wrong all the social media hype seemed to be for Sunday night.

Forecast was off. Imagine trying to predict tornadoes when the only info you got before convective initiation was when a trough hit the west coast

Very smoky rain this morning. AQI over 200, visibility under 3 miles. The smell of burnt boreal forest in the air.

I'm curious, at what level are the winds bringing the smoke in? According to the models we should be in southwest flow at 500 with this thunderstorm setup ahead of the incoming cold front.

Cold front passed through the twin cities last night. Subsidence behind the front is bringing the smoke to ground level. The upper flow pattern had been out of the NW to my understanding. It’s a pretty thin band of surface level smoke. Western and Central Minnesota are already seeing improvements.

Looks like a rough morning for the Twin Cities. At least, it should move out fairly quickly.

Was tornado warned here but weak rotation passed northwest of here on a weakening trend.  Did get a nice period of 50mph winds and near zero visibility in absolute car wash style deluge.

Up to 0.85" for the day but guessing a good amount of rain blew across the rain funnel during the storm.

EDIT:  Also, lol at SPC bumping us out of the slight after days of being in it, only to add it back late in the day.

EDIT2:  Finished with 1.20".

This system was a dud for a large swath of sw through ne Iowa, where not much rain fell.... following days of models dropping 1+" across most of the state.  I was lucky to get 0.53", with only a couple very low rumbles.  Models are showing very little rain, again, for the next week+.

Just over an inch of much-appreciated rain here.  Locations less than ten miles south picked up nearly 1.8” from a SW to NE oriented line, so location mattered.

Nevertheless, grass and garden will proper.
