Complete waste of time graphic then, wasn't it? Thanks for letting me know.

Normandy
Monster storm! Radar presentation in the eyewall is off the charts right now. Cell motion being sucked into the NW eyewall is crazy to see. Will be a pleasure tracking with you all tonight

Rtd208
The forward speed of Idalia has slowed to 15 mph. Certainly not good.
hawkeye_wx
To be honest, the new recon's initial wind measurements are kinda meh for a 946 mb storm... 107 kts flight level (se quad) and 101 kts SFMR (nw quad). In the southeast quad, the SFMR is only 79 kts.

hawkeye_wx
Radar shows a slug of dry air has been pulled into the east side of the core. That part of the core has dried out somewhat. Any outer core bands have been broken up and the eastern eyewall does not appear as thick or robust as the west side.

I noticed that on radar but on water vapor there really isn't any signs of dry air so kind of odd that's happening. Maybe a significant moat forming?

Not certain that’s what is happening. Beam height of the radars is my main question. Also appears the left side (east side) is undergoing frictional interference. So far not seeing any indications of what you mentioned in the recon data.
WxSynopsisDavid
Using radar, the east quad is where the fastest winds are. Velocities are also spiking in that region.
Nibor
Some pretty evident eastward wobble over the past 2 hours.

Normandy
I was going to mention this is hauling east now. Will be interesting to see if it’s a trend or just a speed bump. If I’m in Tallahassee i feel good now though

WxSynopsisDavid
Appearing highly likely that winds are roughly 130mph at the surface in the east quad of the eyewall. Seen a few spikes in excess of 140mph, so it’s plausible Idalia is now a Category 4. Velocities are spiking as the core is tightening up. Frictional-induced RI looks to be occurring.
LovintheWhiteFluff
Most 0z models including HAFS had Idalia leveling off right about now until landfall. Let see what she does.
ScottB
Certainly looks like she's still strengthening. Big flare ups and hot towers forming in her western quadrant right now. Looks like the western eye wall is about to become well formed as well.
Radtechwxman
Satellite would make you think it's still rapidly strengthening but pressures seem to be more steady according to recon. I'm surprised.
WxWatcher007
Such an interesting appearance. Extrapolated pressure down to 941.5mb on that pass.

hawkeye_wx
Brand new dropsonde says 944 mb with 29 kt wind, so 941-942 mb. I mentioned a little while ago that some dry air got wrapped into the outer core. One thing that did was eliminate the competition from outer core bands, so all the energy is going into the inner eyewall.

HillsdaleMIWeather
I've heard people arguing about whether there's dry air of if it's just the radar, anyone got a clear answer?

DDweatherman
Radar imagery now is more textbook of a potent ring around the eye wall characteristic of the higher end majors. Should expect to see influence from the entrance region of the jet as it nears the coastline along with some frictional effects to tighten this small core even further
Nibor
Looks like recon is going to do one more pass?
