What I wouldn't give to see that just once in my life...... Well, on second thought. 5-10 feet of snow, avalanche danger, 60 mph winds.... maybe not.

Just what they need. It's great to finally see them get dumped on.

So are we ever going to hit the freezing point again?

Who needs freezing temps? I'll take my 40 degree snow any day of the week.  lol, i think we're going to fine. i'm banking on March to be amazing for us somehow.(not saying February is a dumpster fire or anything, I just have a good feeling about March.)

Yeah we will be fine but it's funny. Looks like several chances for rain.

Topped out today at 57.2°. What a difference a couple of days can make. Almost no snow left with the exception of the plow berms.

Going on our winter vacation tomorrow for 10 days so don't let it snow until I get back. By the way it looks I don't think that'll be a problem.

Lol no probably not.  Have a great vacation Joe!

Have a good vacation Joe! When you get back I think we could be eyeing a big snowstorm. I love what the 00z Euro was showing. Mountain special with a widespread 6"+. Still a long long way out, but this is what you want the pattern showing. The split flow looks to kick up and rain will be the story over the next 6-9 days in WNC, then A strong -NAO manifests locking in cold over the mountains as a LP travels the SC coast. Classic mountain snowstorm setup. Still nothing certain of course but once again this is what you want to see. Would love to see that block get a little more stout, but 10 days out we sit in a great spot to watch models.

I get off the forum for 2 days and I already forgot about the wedge this weekend. So if you see a guy in short-sleeves walking in the 40 degree rain, it's me.

Mid-long term note - if we can get close to the pattern that we are seeing in the models, we're going to be in a nice spot come end of the month.

Two things that I'm seeing in the future of us here in the moutains. First is I'm expecting a lot of rainfall especially next week with the cutoff low coming right over us. Second is that if this is northern stream dominate I see a ton of energy coming down off the trough right into the mountains. The 18z would burry the boarder counties. Just an observation.

The cutoff low is interesting to watch. If it stays south and really revs up we could be looking at a heavy rain to heavy snow threat possibly.

Yeah I'm interested to see what happens. May have to go up on Roan Mountain Sunday afternoon if things look close. Euro has been the best looking so far but the GFS is close.

BIG negative SOI burst today.

18 Jan 2017 1007.79 1008.80 -26.47

Today marks the 6th negative day in a row.  This should give a jolt to eventually deepen the trough in the Pacific to the point where our PNA pops nicely.

Yeah that's a great sign heading into this new pattern change. Maybe we can get the southern stream moving a bit more.

Man today is just picture perfect. Just an absolute gorgeous day out. If I did not love snow and cold so much I could deal with this all year long but I love cold and snow lol. Still today the runs on the gfs and Euro look good. Cold, clippers, and more cold.

Yep I'm ready for cold and snow, I've had enough of this warmer weather, but it is beautiful today.  Things are looking up around the end of the month and into February.
