Sunday looks like more of the same around here as the Euro has S to SSE winds keeping

temperatures lower than the potential if there was a SW or W flow.

This looks like a fairly typical stretch of weather for the coast and maybe much of the city-highs in the low-mid 80s before dipping perhaps to upper 70s as the SSE wind increases. Temps much warmer than that will be well inland over NJ.

This will go down in the record books as one of the most comfortable summers for the South Shore in the previous 30 years.

JFK has only had one day above 90 when it hit 91 back on June 18th. We are currently tied with 2004 for the

only year in the previous 30 with just 1 90 degree day.

Either way, not good for the climate record.... now problems with Linden and Teterboro.... seems to happen too often with the official stations and takes way to long to rectify any problems. At my station, if my main thermo malfunctions I have backups which would alert me to a problem and I would quickly remove my station from reporting until things get fixed.

If they have indeed cleaned back some of the overgrowth as some have reported  I think its a good thing.  Making all of these stations as accurate as possible is the right approach.  Especially the park mostly because its the center of media and records as well as perception for the NY/NJ metro areas.

I was at dinner in NJ the other night and a live band singer was talking between sets and he said what a summer only 4 days of 90.  Fine if you live in parts of the city but most sites CNJ had at least 10 (still cool but a different perception).  I think I saw you register 8, 90 degree in SI.  Anyway they should  regularly check them all and verify accuracy.

Quite Impressive.  Curious how many 80 degree days vs the norm if you have that kind of data.

I was at the park last week. Plenty of bushes and trees surrounding the site. Nothing has changed, IMO. I'll have pics later.

You could already see NYC falling out of the lead  today  as the winds are more SSW .

The only days NYC has been the leader has been with an easterly component to the flow so

LGA and EWR get a breeze off the water.

NYC:  85

EWR: 88

LGA:  86

Central Park's temps are fine this summer. Even today, it's perfect. Compare it with LGA.

Both hit 90 degrees.

These 2 stations should be very similar on almost everyday with the 1 exception being an east wind, where LGA would be cooler.

East winds NYC warmest.....S to SSW winds NYC and LGA Similar and Newark warmest....SW to W winds LGA warmer

than NYC and Newark still warmest.

I think the dryness helps the park this month, but it can only hold the lead with an easterly component

keeping LGA and EWR cooler. It would have been nice when they installed the ASOS to have moved it

to a more open section of the park.

I agree. Except today, we had more of a southerly wind component. LGA's high was actually 89, in the climo report, The sea-breeze from the south always reaches LGA before NYC. EWR reached 93. Wind were out the W-SSW wind today there.

Today was more like the typical summer days where NYC and LGA were within a degree of each other and EWR took the lead.

Central Park has steadily lost the edge in 90 degree days to LGA since the vegetation overgrew

around the sensor.

Only a slight increase in the daily average high at LGA relative to NYC can lead to LGA

opening up a 90 degree lead especially over a whole season. So that's how NYC and

LGA can finish with in a degree of each other and LGA rack up more 90's over time.

Example of July 2010:

average high NYC 90.1 with 16 90 degree days

average high LGA 90.6 with 18 90 degree days

Very nice thunderheads on the storms over Danbury and N Westchester, looks to be taking on more and more of an anvil shape. Even all the way down here I could notice lightning in those clouds.

It was a beautiful sunset giving the anvil a pink glow at about 38K feet.
