Can you explain?

Not enough voltage or something?

I'm not sure if this is totally correct but...

With CG lightning, much more of the atmosphere is being superheated and we are much closer to that superheated air...with CC lightning it's much further up within the atmosphere...occurring within the clouds and too far away from us.

NW MA is going to get nailed. Hail in those cells.

Yup

Does anyone else know of anyone in the Leyden, MA area.

I live just a few miles west of Leyden, in Bernardston. ...in between Leyden and Northfield.

impressive lightning

Unbelievable, near constant CG. Very little CC.

Northfield, MA 1'' hail

I don't doubt that. I had quarters here.

Rt. 91 north of Greenfield has to be pretty ugly right now. Hail...

Yup

Nice cell just moved through here. Prolific thunder (loud) and lightning with torrential rain and pea sized and larger hail!

Glad to see that you got in on the action too.

Fun times!

Those events where the base of the trough dips into SNE from the north seem to be the best producers around here. Part of it may be due to the source region of the airmass at mid levels. The trajectory would bring more continental air in from the west...and thus steeper lapse rates in the mid levels. Also, you are in the right entrance region of jet.

Great general truth.

Does anyone have the upper level maps for 6/1/2011?

I think there are some here that expected convection right to the coast

Who? Convection rarely survives to the coast in New England.

As for tornadoes, closest tornado to eastern Mass coast I believe was Reading Mass, 1857.

Nice ofb... does this line qualify as an MCS?

General Noob question, would this be a mcs based on only the ofb, or on the long lived nature of storms?

A couple of former teachers I worked with almost bought the place back in the day to operate the ski area...

Anyway, I will be unplugging my computer, etc until the morning in a few. No more fried electronics

That would have been sweet! I remember reading that back in the 80's? it was all but re-opened. They had flyers ready, everything was renovated... but it fell through. You can still see the old platforms, a few buildings, and the overgrown trails.

Sweet Shot!

Thanks!

Vivid lightning, heavy rain, 15-20mph gust as the line passed. Nothing severe but still exciting, for New England.
